possible root rot

Hi all I am in need of help. I am seeing what looks like clear snot on bottom of my net pots and a couple of roots just fell off. Just did a nute change yesterday and rinsed the pots under running water. Ph is climbing and I've adjusted it twice today. There's no smell as of yet and roots are still white with just a little brown tint on two of the 4. Was told on nuther site to add peroxide but wasn't told how much. I need help bad. I am fighting cancer and I spent everything I had to get this started and just don't think I can handle this failing. Don't even have seeds left to start over. My res temp climbs to 74 f at the end of the day before the lights go off for the nite. It's at 68 f in mornings. I really need this grow to work. I have soil experience but I'm pretty new to hydroponic. Me and a friend got a grow in this Dwc before she lost her battle with big C few months back. I have one soil backup but that won't last till I can grow more if I could get more seed. PLZ HELP.

Ah man, sorry to hear about all that -- that's pretty rough. There is some GOOD NEWS tho -- I would like to help you any way I can. I'm very familiar with the clear slime and there are a few options moving forward. Can you provide any pictures so I can get a better look at what we're working with here -- of the plant and of the roots?

Hello Zepher,
Sorry about your friend. perhaps you should insulate your rezervoir and get that temp down to high sixties. Any light will feed the bad stuff. Get it dark in that reservoir. Cover it with panda paper. Clean that tub out with bleach. Wash your roots with a spray bottle with 0.3% h2o2 solution. Stuff at the drug store is 3% so 10 to 1. The hydro store stuff is 30% so 100 to 1 part water. That should help your roots. Clone that plant, so you don't have to spend money on seeds. Hopefully you don't get any males, but if you do, save the pollen and brush some on one of your flowers and make more seeds for later. Be patient and enjoy.
Fuck cancer!

Tks I am unable to provide pics. The plants themselves look very healthy and the roots still look white and what I thought was brown tint is actually the color of the nutes. I am still getting growth as they shot up after yesterday's nute change. Ph went up to 6.5 from 5.5 in about 8 hrs. When I did the change I cleaned the reservoir well and added a teaspoon of 3%peroxide per 2 gallons. 4 gallon reservoir. Unfortunately I can never get grow area temp below79° with lights on and .most of time it's at 84° my tap water is 48 ppm and my nutes bring that up to 540 ppm. The fastest growing one is 7 inches with 6 nodes.smallest 4inches. Nodes very close together. The slime on pots is just slightly cloudy. Still no smell to tank though starting to smell little skunky in grow area. The grow area is 16 deep x28 wide x 48 high. Cfl lights with 7500 lums. with area closed up. And I add another 2700 lums. When I open it up. Heat runs up to 90°s if I don't take out one bulb and close it up. Wish I could provide pics but I just don't have a way. I'm probably the last person that uses a phone with no camera. I have heard that hydro guard works very well to clear up root rot and I would try to get some if this was confirmed though I am trying too live on about 3 dollars a day and can't afford waste any thing at this time. I hope this gives everyone a better idea of what I'm working with and I truly appreciate any help that I can get. Tks again to all.

Reservoir is insulated and light tight. Have covers over net pots with the top of reservoir covered with mylar in hopes of reflecting heat away from res. And yes I agree with your opinion on cancer lol. I'm hoping what I'm hearing about the fda knowing that marijuana has cancer fighting properties and has known about it for twenty years and hid it is false cause that would really be heartbreaking. How many could have been helped in twenty years. Tks for your help.

Well right off the bat, with those temperatures, your room isn't suited well for dwc. With temps in the 80's and up to 90, and with no chiller, your res temps probably go up to around 80 also -- which is far from ideal. The problem with clear slime is that it's evil and it's very difficult to get rid of once you have it. It's not run of the mill root rot, it's super rot.

One thing is for certain, IME, 3% peroxide will not rid you of the slime -- like Rory and terry suggested -- you will need some sort of microbial tea -- especially with warm res. temperatures -- an h202 dunk before you change the res. and add the tea will increase your chances of success.

I asked for pictures so I could see the size of the plant and rootball. The larger a plant is and the larger the root ball, the better able it is to withstand an attack from the slime. I've had large plants with large rootballs that were unfazed by the slime and after I added a microbial tea, it was game over -- no big deal. Conversely, I've had smaller, more immature plants that have been totally decimated by the stuff -- the roots never get a chance to establish themselves fully before they're overwhelmed -- even with the tea. The "bennies" like to attach themselves to something -- whether it's the hydroton or a nice big rootball.

So if you think your lady still looks ok and you want to fight the "zombie rot" aka clear slime, you should use hydro guard or even better, some kind of microbial tea for more diversity. I'm not sure what kind of results you'll have though with room temperatures that go up to 90. If your plant starts looking kinda haggard and you can tell the slime and the heat are starting to win the battle and you need to save your plant and your medicine, you can always plant her in a well aerated soil or coco. You'll lose a week or 2 in growth but hey, that's better than starting over.

Temps only get to 90°s if I try to leave all my lights on when I close the door on it if I remove one light before I close up its between 82° and 84° . Res. temp is never above 74°. I try to keep door open 95% of time and its usually 82° I have to close up when I leave to avoid detection. But it's usually closed less than 2 hours. By the way lights are on 20 /4 cycle and it cools down nicely in the off time. I only hit that 90° Mark once when I first added the additional lights. Removed the one and its 2700k that puts out more heat than the other ones. I have 2 6500 k, 2 5500 k and one 2700k in there right now and its the 2700 that I unscrew when I have to leave. I have one in soil that is doing very nice that's beside the res. I wanted to make sure I had good light in there but to be honest I could probably leave the 2700k out as it was growing great before I added it in. Had planed on taking the 2 6500k out and adding the2700s at flower. I wish I had a way to post pics but I don't. I've had to sell a lot of my stuff to pay med bills and to just plain survive including my camera. Tks for your help

Just checked roots again and no slimy feel to them and they are getting bigger on the two best ones. I'm gonna break down and order the hydroshield. Hate to use credit card but what difference will a credit rating matter if I don't survive anyway lol I have hard time eating without something to help with my appetite plus I hate pain meds and cannabis helps the pain more than the meds do. They make me feel sick. Even my doctor who doesn't like cannabis said I was doing better when I still had some. Again I can't thank everyone enough.

And now I'm seeing brown on the roots. Ordered hydro shield ,washed out res, dipped pots in peroxide solution. Still no smell and roots are no slimy yet. Still seeing growth in roots and plants. Hydroshield arrives tomorrow.

That looks bad. Mine are tanish right with just a darker root here and there. Not as bad as that pic. But that snotty looking stuff is back big time and water is looking cloudy. My hydro shield is going to be here tomorrow and gonna clean every thing, dip pots in peroxide solution and rinse and see how the hs works. Read some impressive things about it and hope it's true. Let me know if there's more I should be doing. Tks

Yea I transplanted from soil to hydroponic and was nervous but I washed tho roots very very well. No soil left on them before they went in and hit them with a light peroxide solution for 3 days after plus added small amount to res. Just noticed that my air stone has a bad place at the nipple and while I'm getting small bubbles getting some large ones too. Changing tomorrow anyway. This has reminded me how much I love to grow. So relaxing in a way. If I wasn't so worried bout this problem lol but dang this is like old times. Been twenty five years since I grew before thatlast grow with my friend. I look at them twenty times a day lol.

Well cleaned everything.added hydroshield. Next day saw white roots popping out of pots. Check today got new slime. go to wash it off pots roots just fall away. Was gonna try the Bennie tea till saw how much more money I'd have to spend. Just don't have it.could have bought enough weed with what I've spent trying to fix this but was hoping for something stronger than dirt weed. Well least I don't have to worry about increasing my appetite now. Can't afford to eat now anyway. My soil backup is doing well so at least I can get something but the hydroponic had the best genetics in it soil was bag seed of unknown quality. My luck right now it'll be a male. I'm at a loss as to what to do now and struggling to find the energy to keep going. Want to Thank everyone for their help. By the way it was hydro guard not hydroshield don't know how I got that wrong.
