It can be either depending on the model. Most have two functions just like your car, one setting recirculates the air (just hot air out the back) the other will incorporate some fresh air and exhaust some air from the room. Maybe not by design but if you crack the bottle some (smell) is likely to leak out Set it to recirculate and should be fine.

dont think it has a recirc feature. would i be giving it one if i just didnt vent it at all. i have found out that the exhaust hose also sends out moisture so i will need to vent it if i want to dehumidify. which i do because im flowering with 70 humidity right now. but i think the exhaust is safe to breath so i can send it to another room instead of outside to the police's nose

Ok I was unsure of the kind you had. All it does is recirculate.

Attic is good. I would do a smell check to see if odors were going out the exhaust. Separate the two sides and put something that has a strong smell on the inside and see if odor comes out the other end. Might expand your options a bit

my room is a grow room inside of a room. i specifically designed it so that all the intake is far away and the exhaust gets carbon ffilter and is exhausted right into the room that the grow room is in. my reasoning for this is that if i had odor problems i could run an ion generator in the main room as a fail safe. my first grow and i cant take chances with smell issues. so i will just vent this into the room right out of my grow tent. maybe with the exhaust pulling out cooler air, it will make the outside room bareable.? what temp should i aim for i was thinking 72?

I find the most difficult situation in any grow op to be controlling temperature and humidity when odor control is also a major concern. There are so many ways to do it, but each situation is different, and there's rarely only one "best" way to do it. This subject is far more complex than lighting, or any other indoor growing factor IMO, and is something I don't think I'll ever fully master.

well i plugged this thing in without venting it at all just to see what would happen. i checked on it after a few hours and the warning light already came on. the manual says if the wrning light is on then i need to drain it. i wonder if it is because there is no where to vent the moisture?

yep.......if you look on the back of the unit there is going to be a drain connection that you can connect a hose. my portable air drips constantly and will only run for about 4-6 hours without draining. so i've drilled a hole thru my wall to have the unit constantly drain outside. there may be a small drain plug at the bottom of the unit as well which drains any condensation that builds up in the bottom of the unit. my portable air has run for months with no issues.
but to answer your original question.........the exhaust blows out some really hot air which is not filtered. so depending how funky your girls are, you will be exhausting their odor out as well.

okay, i went today and drained the ac. i vented it out of the room and will check it later. you are right on about the drain. if it continues to be a problem then i will run a line as you did. i will continue to vent the exhaust right into the outside room though. i notice that my humidity dropped 10% in like 30 minutes. that was pretty cool.

for the time being, i have set the ac on top of some wood and i put a catch bucket under it for the water. seems to be functioning well but the manual says that it operates on 9oo watts. that really fucks up my power usage. i am worried about running 300 watts 12 hours a day. plus my t-5's pumps and fans. what do you guys think?

Your A/C will drastically drop your humidity and cause your girls to grow bigger, faster!!

ya at anytime ur running more then 2 lights that are 400 watt and up you need 10,000 btu's or more. i'm under 4x1000s and 3 cooling fans in a 12x12x8 and my ac unit is set pretty low so the room stays at 80 f on hot summer days.

that's what i was going to do but was advised against it from the guy at the garden store. he said that the high temps of the exhaust would burn out a charcoal filter or odor sock and could maybe even start a fire. he said it's best to filter the air in the room before it's exhausted. makes sense to me. so i bought an ozone generator to filter the smells in the room and i haven't had any other problems with odor being exhausted out my ac.
