Portable A/C dual hose question.

Ok so I know these dual hoses give better options than single hose systems. But in my situation I don't want to put the whole unit inside the grow room. Well it's hard to explain. I want the whole unit in the room ( or connected) but I don't want the portion that extracts air from the room in the grow box. If that makes sense.

I basically want the unit to accurately measure the temperature of the grow room and bring in cool air, but I don't want any air pulled from the grow room once the airconditioner is done cooling. I know some people just build a box ducting from the units vent (that blows cool air) and connect it to the grow box. But if I did this the unit would measure the temperature of outside the grow box. Which would cause it to run more often.

So I guess I need to know what part of the a/c unit sucks air back out and through the second duct? Is there a second vent on the bottom or back of the unit that pulls in air?

1 duct is for pulling air from outside and the other is for pushing hot air back out side. The hoses arent for cooling with AC they are for cooling the condenser creating the ac. The vents in the front push out cold AC air. You want the ac on when the room gets hot - inside the room where the plants are. Running it less is foolish. Im pretty aware of how the unit works. But I want to know which part of the unit does the hot air get sucked into the unit, through the duct and back outside? How does this heat extraction process work? I absolutely have to use a portable AC unit due to where my room is located.

So is it possible to put every part of the unit inside the tent, EXCEPT the part that hot air gets pulled back outside? Just to ensure no air from the grow tent is extracted, only air directly outside the grow tent

it uses 2 sources of air. the air from the room doesn't leave the room, it is recirculated. The air that is drawn in from the outside passes over the condensor and is sent back outside. It is like two seperate containers if you will.

what you say does make some sense, but I have read otherwise in multiple threads. I've heard many people say that even with a dual hose a/c some of the air from inside the tent is pulled out through the a/c unit. This causes them to have issues with co2 levels and containing the smell.

But if your right, your saying absolutely no air will be pulled from the room? It almost sounds like your describing a mini split (except the mini split only uses air from inside the tent and refrigerant). I just want to make sure I'm not exhausting some smelly buds for the whole world to know about. I have close neighbors and exhausting smelly air is by no means acceptable.

I literally just searched and found 2 more threads of people saying their dual hose units do in fact exhaust smell from the tent. So could I just buy another carbon filter and hook it to the AC's exhaust duct (that blows air back outside)? I could probably put an inline duct fan (not the high cfm can fans. Just a booster fan that helps move air) to help the a/c unit push air through the filter. But with that fan running constantly it would probably want to pull even more air from the tent.

I just need some help here. My tent is already in an attic, so I can't exhaust the a/c vent into the attic as t would be counter productive.

very nice diagram. But at the top of the diagram it says "only heat from room is exhausted". Could that mean smell also? This is the first thread I've had people tell me no smell will be exhausted through the dual hose units. I know they are better than single hoses, but are you saying I shouldn't worry about any smell being exhausted from my grow room??

i believe they leak a little, you could make a little filter box that the air has to go thru first before it exhausts.

the cheaper the AC the more they vent bad air. I think chillmaster sells a "grow" dual hose AC that seals better than the normal home ones. Be aware that the room that the vented air is in will be hot as shit. Like unbearable hot... You should also vent the hot air from the room the hot air is vented to.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into that brand for sure. But I'll have to vent the ac's exhaust back outside anyways. That's why I'm so concerned about the smell being pulled out. The grow room is in an attic so I have no where left to vent to. I could vent to the house but that would just cause the house AC to run a lot more. So I have to vent the AC's exhaust to the outside.

ill probably take chucks advice and and build a small carbon filter box that the AC's exhaust has to pass through. I'll probably put a canister of ona gel in the box too, just for extra assurance. Hopefully that would cover up and smells leaking out the exhaust. Of course ill have a store bought carbon filter and high cfm fan scrubbing the grow box air itself. So smell should be minimal if it goes as planned.

Just a quick question , since the AC unit brings air in and back out at the same time, it doesn't create any positive preasure right?

yea it just recycles the air thats in there so it shouldnt create any pressure. Ive never used one in a tent where I would actually see it though and I run a shit load of negative pressure anyway.

You'll definitely need to plan to scrub the air going out, the units expel air, they don't clean it, whatever smell is in your room is what's going out the vent. Note that these units typically have 5" vents so you'll need to find an adapter (5"->4" or 5"->6"), was able to find one at a local hardware store for like $5 to reduce mine to 4" (existing vent), it was in the section where they sell irrigation-type pipe (black/corrugated plastic) and worked fine...
