WASHINGTON -- Prince George's County Police continued Thursday to investigate after officers seized about 32 pounds of marijuana delivered to the home of Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo.
The drugs were seized in a raid Tuesday evening involving narcotics officers and a Sheriff's Office SWAT Team.
Officers also shot and killed Calvo's two black Labradors. Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Mario Ellis said deputies "apparently felt threatened" by the dogs.
Calvo has not been charged.
"My government blew through my doors and killed my dogs," Calvo told The Washington Post. "They thought we were drug dealers, and we were treated as such. I don't think they really ever considered that we weren't."
Police said the investigation into how the drugs were in his home continues, and Calvo, his wife and his mother-in-law are "persons of interest."
The raid occurred after Calvo brought a package containing the marijuana on his doorstep into his home. He said he doesn't know how the drugs got to his doorstep.
Officials told The Post they were sorry about the deaths of the dogs but defended the way the raid was carried out.
Calvo, 37, has been mayor of the 3,000-person town near College Park since 2004, The Post said.
