Plugging A Surge Protector Into One Side Of A Grounded Timer

Anyone ever had an issue doing this? I need more things on my timer.

depends on what you are running. a couple medium sized duct fans or oscillating fans should be fine. but i wouldn't plug more than one large light into a timer not intended for it.

I have done this. It's important to know the specifications of the timer and power strip though. Don't overload either and you should be fine.

Right now, the fan is 250cfm (not sure what that translates to generally in terms of power) and the light is 250w HPS. The timer and surge protector are both 1875w/ 15A. I think I should be fine, but something about it is making me nervous. Just want to make sure noone has boo boo'd doing this

sounds like you should be ok, if it were a 400w or more you might be concerned. as long as the timer and surge protector don't get hot you'll be ok. i run two 6" 450cfm fans on a 15A power strip and timer, only problem ive had is the timer wearing out after a couple years. thats why i buy the heavier duty timers now.

Looks as though you are fine. 250w+wattageoffan= way less than 1875
I'm sure those 2 also pull less than 15 amps as well.

my timer had multiple outlets on it. i plugged it on the surge protector and attached only the main light and the fan that pushes air through the cooltube.

i also agree with neosapien's assessment on the wattage.

That sounds scary. Basically, it is 250wHPS w/ fan. The reason I ask is because I want to drop a CFL bar the lower shaded area of the plants with a tiny fan, which of course has to be on the same light cycle. I may leave the light directly on the timer. The set up is currently > wall plug > surge protector > timer then it would be > surge protector > CFLs (rougly 100w). & 250cfm fan. The 250w HPS would be on the other side of the timer

Heavy duty timer...heavy duty power strip...appliance extention cord. Cuz catching my house on fire is the last thing i wanna worry about.
