Please help!!

So, I am on grow #6 (#7 if you count the cooked widow plants I killed last week) and I have always struggled with temps. I got a 400 dollar room ac and it is now having problems. I have had the temps in my closet exceed 100 every day now. The plants are just seedling, and are doing ok as long as I keep them moist, and the humidity up around 55%, but this is BAD, and I need to correct it. I lost 8 widow plants the first time it went off, and they cooked in the heat for 10 hours and died. SO...I can't afford a new ac right now (nor do I think I want a new royal sovereign), and I do not know what to do about cooling the room.
What about cooling the res?? Can that help over all temp. Res temps are around 81 in the heat, 68 in the ac.
What about evap cooling? How many frozen 2 liters do you think I may need for a 4x4x8 area to cool off some.
Any other ideas for a temop fix until I can buy another portable ac unit.
Thanks much....my little ladies appreciate it.

Its sounds like you have your AC on in the main living area of your flat, is this correct? And i'm sure you can't just leave the closet door open or you would have done that, correct?

If you have space above the closet door i would vent it above the door or along the lower side (either side) of the door, that would be your intake (drawing cool air in from the cooled portion of your flat), and then exhaust it in the top of your closet....

i don't know enough about rez chillers to answer your question sorry...

best of luck...

Are you using a HID light? If you are then the only thing I can think of is switching to a few 100 Watt CFLs for now. Since they are seedlings the CFLs will be fine. CFLs don't give off anywhere near the amount of heat as a HID light. Using the CFLs for now will buy you some time to get a new a/c.... you may not get quite the growth you would under HID... but better a smaller plant then a dead one from heat stress :D

good luck no1 helps me on this forum

That's absurd.... 90% of the posts here on this forum are people helping each other out.

Good advice FL Girl, never even thought of just changing the light... HO T5'S OR CFL'S may be worth looking into in your case. great advice!! I second that!!!

Damn fine idea on the lights. I have a 40w flouro tube I can switch the MH out to today until I can get an ac. I know I can keep seedlings alive under the fluoro for a day or two, and I can buy a new AC on Saturday.
Anyone recommend a good brand of portable AC???
Also...to answer above....I grow in a 4'x4'x8' closet in my garage. The intake comes from under my house and the exhaust goes throuigh my roof. I run the ac in the area outside the grow closet, and when it is running right, it keeps the temp in the grow closet around 80 at the hottest and 62 at the coolest. I have run 5 successful grows in this closet, with the first grow being all temps over 90 during lights on, and I still had excellent results. I just don't want to lose my plants, and I have 0 money to buy anything until Saturday. So thanks for any and all advice.
And btw....I have used this forum for a while now and always get good help.

The one I bought is called Boston Products; it's a 10,000 BTU. It's a cheapie I bought at Wally World for $299.00. So far no problems, other then the fact that the exhaust tubing didn't screw into the exhaust coupler with any stability. A little (ok a lot) duct tape solved that problem.

The thing I think is MOST important when buying a portable A/C is to get one with a 24 hour timer. Mine has a 12 hour timer and I didn't give it a thought as I figured I'd plug it into a power strip controlled by a timer. NOPE... doesn't work. The timer will shut off the unit.... but when the power strip comes back on in the morning the a/c doesn't start up.... I have to manually start it each day.

So...... make sure you get one with a 24 hour programmable timer :D

You can buy cfl's and they will carry you all the way thru vegitation, some ppl use them all the way thru bloom as well, i personally don't.. What i use is HO T5'S for clones/seedlings & Vegitation.. Then they are off to the bloom room where i use the big boy 1000HPS.... But you definately dont need HID for veg or seedlings....
