Hi all, first time grower and need some advice from the pros.

First a picture of my setup:

16 seedlings, 8 days old (2" tall) in 3" jiffy cups
8 x 4' T5 HO cfls 4" above plant tops 4 blue/4 red
OSC fan blowing at stems
Mylar white on all walls
Hum: 45% Temp: 24-26 deg
Space: 2' x 6.5' x 8'
Medium: Scotts (will be coco soon)
No nutes
Bottle water - 2 cap fulls evry day

My babies are 8 days old and grew fast for the first week. Checked Mon morn and noticed the tips of the first leaves (rounded) are turning yellow. I stopped spraying them and thought I may have just overwatered. Didn't feed last night and this morning they look bigger but the yellow hasn't gone away.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I'm switching to Perlite/Coco in a few days and plan on transplanting into 2 gal pots.

Please help me fix my babies! I never thought I could have so much love for a plant :)

Here's a couple pics hope this helps identify my problem.

Thanks again.

I would get them healthy in those jiffies first. It is going to be hard as hell to transplant them now. They will die if you try to move them. Quit praying and water 1 time a week. DONT TRANSPLANT! WAIT!

Thanks dirtyboy I will wait. So you think the yellow is from overwatering? I think they're stretched should i lower the lights from 4" to 2"? lights are 24/0 and don't want to heat stress em.

yh id deffinetly lower the lights try add some more light to it aswell later on if your only using floros

Hey, I'm no expert either, but am almost done a month of my first veg.

For transplanting you don't need to pull them out of the jiffies, just put the whole thing into your bigger pots (maybe peel the bottom or side off) that means they aren't hard at all to replant.

I'd lower the lights for sure too. If the yellow is damage, it won't change, but the new growth will look ok. Keep and eye on temps too.
Good luck

Thanks gg I think you're right about the new growth cause all but the round leaves are good and green (mmm...greeen..) and growing!

based on what I've read on riu yellow at this stage (8 days) either means overwatering or the ph is too high. Thankfully temps are steady and under 28 at all times. I'll try to transplant a couple seedlings and see if that makes any difference. just got a ph meter and will test my bottle water tomorrow nite.

RIU rocks! Thanks for the input and pls keep it coming!

keep the ph between 5.5 and 6 and get more lightsss dude do you have a hps or mh ready for when you flower

I have 8 T5's now and will change all to red when flowering. No plans for mh or hps's due to heat restrictions but the plan is to to add 2 side wall mount cfls and ventilation soon.

Lowered the lights to 2" and will wait to water till tomorrow am. Less is best i'm learning lol!

Peace:peace:

sweet i ran out and got sum cfls 2day so hopefully mine will sprout and i can use the cfls untill my hps is ready

Transplant all my seedlings into coco/perlite/verm mix and they are all doing much better now. They're in 1 gal pots and 2 of them have grown their full 2nd set of leaves! Don't know for sure but the jiffy cups + scotts combo was somehow hurting the roots.

4 plants died but I'm replacing them today.

Post some pics soon.

Checked ph level of the bottled water I'm using and it read 7.4.

Could this be a reason my plants were turning yellow??
