hello all,
I was wondering if anybody knew where to purchase a 50 or 70w hps that had plastic housing? All of the ones on econolight are metal. The reason i ask is b/c I plan on doing a rubbermaid grow and I dont want to go any higher with wattage and those hps come with the ballast built in, i would remote ballast it but I've read at least 4 threads that explain how to do it and for the life of me I cant figure it out lol so i was thinking about cutting a hole in the hps housing and mounting a computer fan on the top to extract the heat. what do you guys think?

That sounds like a good idea to me...just make sure you disassemble the fixture before you start cutting! lol! Anyway, that's what my cousin has in his closet, but he stopped growin mj and started growin regular veggies. He has a 50w MH and a 70w HPS like the ones you mentioned. He bought the MH from Lowe's and the HPS from Home Depot, for around $70 each, and they work pretty well, except for the heat, so it might prove very useful to buy or retrofit some sort of cooling system to the lights in such a confined space as a rubbermaid. Well that's about all the info I have on the subject, so I'm out...gl with ur grow! :)

it is super super ez to do a remote ballast.... you can even snip the wires to the light bulb and then just run a longer cord to where you want your bulb then just have bulb hanging there... i can help u if you need it

your gonna need more light then that. atleast get a 150 watter or better

I would say nix on the plastic housing... that sounds like a fire hazard to me. I debated on a 70 watt for my grow box, then decided to get a 150 watt and now I am glad I made that decision.
