planting part of the stem

allowed my plants to "reach for the light" and have 2 plants with very thin stems about 2.5 inches high before you get to some nice leaves...when i transpalnt can i bury part of the stem ..how much of the stem ..and should i take any special precautions thanks

bury up to the cotyledons (coe tuh lee duns) which are the bean leaves, the first two round leaves.
