Im guessing your watering system failed. You could make so much better use of that space...
Looks like prolong standing water caused "Fusarium", it starts at the roots and works it way up to the stem, blocking the plant from delivering nutrients which causes it to dry out, and rather quickly! So don't use plant saucers with cloth pots if you are not willing to immediately drain the saucers after you water your plants!

What is your watering system? Never seen anything like it, and how do you know the plants are getting equal amounts?
