Plans for future soil.

Hey guys, so I'm wanting to know what you think about a soil/soiless mix that I should use for future grows. I am using an organic soil at the moment that is very loamy, because it was the only soil that I could get at my local nursery that didn't contain slow-release nutrients.

The reason I posted this is because all of the recipes online that I've looked at call for potting soil as a part of the mix. Now my problem with that is that the recent batch that I tried to grow burned very badly and died in the slow-release potting soil that I had. This was the reason that I switched my soil to the only organic one I could find.

I would prefer to use the nutrients that I currently have which are Micro:Grow:Bloom from Advanced Nutrients. They are liquid nutrients, if that makes a difference. By this I mean that I would prefer to start with no nutrients and then add them as I go.

I just don't want to pay out the ass for tiny bags of organic potting soil and would like to make my own perfect soil from the correct ingredients. With some help of couse!

So what do you think I should do and why? Thanks in advance.

Most good potting soils are based on a blend of Peat Moss, Humus, Pumice and/or Perlite, different types of compost (wood, mushroom, bark, others) and of course, Worm Castings.

Yes but you didn't clearly read my comments. The only potting soils I could find include SLOW RELEASE NUTRIENTS which burned my plants to DEATH! I know most potting soils contain all that stuff, that wasn't my question. My question is what should I use to build my own soil.

go on line and order some from foxfram or sumthin but dont ever use garden soil, its fulla bugs and the only way to steralize it is to bake it in your oven for an hour or two and apparently the smell aint too fuckin pleasant. i use cheap store own brand potting soil for around the first 2 weeks , usually by that time my plants are around 4" and then straight into miracle gro, no problems.

there are recipies for soil mixes in here if u wanna search for them, ive never bothered myself coz it just seems too much hassle for no great return, my friends have tried a load of fancy mixes and out of quite a few growers theres been no discernible difference. but search around buddy coz ive seen a few recipes but i cant link them to you.

Hmm, I have to agree with the other folks on the boards. There has to be another place where you can get different soil. There are a lot of online shops where you could begin a search and it wouldn't arouse any suspicion that you're growing at home.

Advanced Nutrients works really well with soil, so you're definitely going to have a good time with using the same nutes you're already used to. If you need to find out how to use them, AN has a calculator on thier website that's helped me out in the past.

it's off the home page at www.AdvancedNutrients.com.

Good luck

Actually, if you're using Advanced Nutrients I would say to track down some Sunshine Mix #4.

That's the best stuff if you want to use AN - it's basically like hydroponics in that there's no plant food of any kind in it, it's basically inert. But it also has the advantages of soil. Kind of a best of both worlds kind of thing.

If you have to look around some or even really go to some lengths to track it down, do it. You'll thank me later.
