Planning for a first grow

I've been doing some research on growing and I am putting some serious interest in giving it a try for several reasons, not least of all, to save a few bucks in the long run.

I recently bought some really good, but unfortunately very seedy, marijuana. However, I have no idea how to tell strains apart. I can't decipher indica from sativa, nor other details beyond the species. Basically all I know is how to rate it on a scale of 1-10 on quality.

My first major issue is my growing space. I estimate that I can make a growbox that is perhaps 3'W x 2'L x 4'H without trouble. I estimate 1' of height to be taken up by both the lighting and pots, leaving 3' for plant growth. I am guessing I will be able to fit 3-4 plants in the setup, so long as the plants grow bushy rather than fanned out. Electrical and duct work will be my most minor issue as I have experience with both.

It seems like the holy grail is understanding expectant yield given a certain plant, even when the strain is known, but are their any clues to the mystery? I've noticed that there are several mini-grow boxes (such as computer cases) but I have yet to find any info relative to a yield obtained. I would be ecstatic if I could yield 1oz monthly harvest or 2oz bi-monthly harvest (by staggering planting times).

Can anyone shed some light on this, or am I having pipe dreams... (hmm, I wonder if that's where the term comes from...)

No promises, but 1-2 oz over 3-4 plants is a pretty reasonable expectation. I would say this is minimal; a better guess might be 1-1.5oz per plant, but again this is all just crazy guessing. Really you're just gonna have to plant those seeds and find out what that strain is all about for yourself.
