Placing of seeds in soil/coco correctly

I stole this from another website it makes sense.

"I did a little experiment with sprouting cucumber seeds in soil blocks. In the left half of the tray, I put the radical (root side) down and on the right side I put the radical (root side) up. For a long time now, I have noticed that old weak seed has difficulty pushing the hard seed coat off the leaves once the seedling emerges from the soil (the picture I drew demonstrates what often happens with old weak seed). This is why, contrary to what many others say, I always plant my Cucurbit seedlings with the radical at least partially up and the hard seed coat down so that the leaves can pull from the seed coat in the moist soil prior to emergence. "

Good idea but it dont always work that way in practice ime at least and real old seeds often sprout then give up ime even when they clean its a lack of energy reserves imo from all those years laying in dormancy it may not still have the energy left to push through the soil planted that way sometimes you gotta pop the shell off with a scalpel carefully to give em a hand i guess it just depends how old the seeds are that we talking about with ones less than 10 years old it might work but any older and there too valuable imo to risk it
