The leaves appear green because thats what color light they reflect because its the spectrum of color the plants DON'T use. its also why you can use a green light to check your plants in the dark cycle with very little detriment to them

well you weren't specific as to which pigments that you were reffering to A photosynthetic pigment or antenna pigment is a pigment that is present in chloroplasts or photosynthetic bacteria and captures the light energy necessary for photosynthesis

who knows but pigemsnt play a important roll like for the fact sativas have more pigments than indicas so they can take more direct sun without burning than indicas can
