ph tester question

so i have a hanna ph tester that ive been using the last time i calibrated it was a like a week ago. then today i notice that the things gone wack. i recalibrated it again today but whats the deal. why am i having to recalibrate this thing so often. the manual said to keep the little glass ball (cant remember the name) thing wet so i kept a damp paper towel with cap.

also me and my roommate are in a constant dispute over what the correct ph is i say 5.8 he says 6.2 we are running a hydro setup that basically sprays the roots that in rockwool cubes in hydroton rocks in net pots the plants are few inchs tall and still vegging

ive done alot of research on the subject and have found varying answers but they are all in that range. If anyone can help answer these 2 questions id greatly appreciate it any clarification helps alot.

the best ph is 5.8(is the best for optimum nute uptake)

I have a hanna meter but i cant tell u y you are needing to calibrate it so much

you are correct although strain plays an effect. if you would like to view a chart

also wash your grow cubes hydroton and any maybe even air stones ? just to make sure they are correct ph when u go to install them and run with nutes. just go soak them 24 hours in ph correct water that u plan to grow with. also they have a nute on the market i think its hygrozyme, that i think might help cuz it from what i can tell breaks compounds down so possibly giving you more consistency with ph balance

first thanks for the quick replies it really helps.
i did thoroughly flush the hydroton rocks before i through everything in there this is my first hydro grow so im still learning but i got that part down. thats a pretty nifty chart btw

im gonna go play with the ph some more and make sure both rezzes work. im gonna start a journal soon and post some pics so everyone can see and hopefully enjoy lookin at my set up and it will be cool to get some input on that.

If your Hanna meter has a cap, put a few drops of the 7.0 calibration solution in it when you close it up. You will need to clean the electrode once in a while by soaking in isopropyl for 20 minutes, and then recalibrate.

HTH

i have 4.1 calibrating solution but ill use the isopropyl thing before i recalibrate next time i just had to recalibrate again today grrr. but whatever i got everything back to where it should be today and my babies are looking wonderful so i cant complain

Does your have the option to do the 2 point calibration? It should ask for the 7.01 first and then the 4.01.

my hanna ph tester has this spot where i calibrate it with a pretty small flathead. i dont really think i have a 2 point option. it just pisses me off that i spend x number of dollars for shit to not work right or as otherwise advertised, and believe me if there's one thing i can do much less anyone else is follow straight forward instructions.
say what you want.

i just got a new ph meter and it says that thair is a storage solution you put it in and you have to soak it in that for a few hours to activate the electrode, it also says you can use calibration solution instead of storage solution if you don't use it that could be why u need to recalibrate or it could be contamination from storeing it in water or wet pptowle or if you let it dry out just a shot in the dark here but that could be it
