Ph pen throwing error code when calibrating

I'm calibrating my hm ph pen every 1- 2 weeks. After just ph'n half ro water /half tap in 5 gal bucket with only 12 MLS of cal•mag, (I'm just doing straight water tonite) all was good. After doing same dose of calmag in 2nd 5 gal bucket of water my ph pen was reading 5.2. I know I'm probably good and don't need to ph the 2nd 5gal bucket because same dose of calmag but I like to be precise and make sure. So I calibrated my pen with 7.0 solution 1st which went fine then 4 which is when is started not finishing the calibration and started reading err. Anyone have this issue? Guess u have to get a better quality ph pen.

Or a roll of litmus paper that never needs batteries or calibration.

Ya that would be a bit of a pain when ph'n 30 to 40 gals of water every 2 days. Love the ease of the ph meter pens. Especially since that 30- 40 gals of water is all divided up in 5 gal buckets since I feed different plants different nutes at varying ppms. That's why I'm going half r/o half tap. Was wasting too much water just using r/o. Also the ph pen is only a few months old, just downloaded instructions manual to do a factory reset so all should be good. Forgot to put it in ph meter solution with cap on last time so it got dried out, not sure- but that's what could be why fucked it up

Letting the pen dry out is a big no no. You might need a new one. Hope the reset works
