pH meter vs pH liquid test

Hello, I’ve always struggled with pH and pH meters / liquid tests.
I went out purchased a 70$ pH meter it seemed good. I just calibrated it to 7.0 and took the pH of some water which read 6.4. I poured that same water into a tube and placed the liquid test droplets into and it turned red which indicates a pH of 4 or so. Is my pH meter off ? I just calibrated it?! What should I trust more.. the meter or the liquid test ?

Cheap litmus paper. There's absolutely no need for a meter. None. Spend the money instead on a GOOD EC meter.

I've been using liquid drops for years and they have seemed to work better then the meter I used to have. I found it a hassle to mess with calibrating it and wondering if was really right. I have always wanted to try one of the triple meters where the probes stay in the res all the time and and keep an eye on ppm, temp, and ph. Just never dropped the cash.
