Ph meter trouble

I just purchased a ph,light, and moisture meter,and trying it out last night I was getting some unexpected readings. When using the ph my soil and water tested about 7.8-7.7 It's Miracle grow potting soil. Can this be right? or did I get ripped off on this 8.00 meter?
I'm at work and the meter is at home and I can't remember the brand name on it, but do any of you have 3in 1 meters? and are they acurate? and what did you have to pay for them?

Also when using the moisture part of the meter at first in soil it gave me a dry reading of about 2 or 3 can't remember but I thought the soil was moist.
then I tried it in plane water and it said it was dry too!wtf then I tried it later and it peged the meter to the wet side.
I think my meter is bad what do you people think?????
