pH meter purchase questions

i am sick of using the cheapo chemical pH testers and am shopping for an accurate digital pH meter. a quick trip through Google-land has shown me i am totally incompetent to chose a meter. i cant tell what makes a $400 meter better than a $100 meter.

my first question is: how does one judge a good pH meter?

my second question is: this any good?

The 2 best meters I've found to be are the "Bluelab Truncheon" BlueLab Truncheon - EC/ppm/CF Meters
(1 meter for PH and one meter for EC/PPM) BlueLab Truncheon - pH Meter . Each around $150.00....a little less for one, a little more for the other. These meters are supposed to last forever. OR, the Hanna 9813-6 which measures both PH and PPM as well as solution temps. The Hanna is a little more accurate on PPM/EC because it has a digital readout rather than flashing lights and can be found on e-bay for under $200. HANNA HI 9813-6 pH/EC/TDS/Temp Meter/Grochek/HI9813-6 - eBay (item 370039921549 end time Aug-03-08 09:13:38 PDT) No matter what meter you buy be sure to get the sachets of calibration solution and you might want to consider cleaning and storage solutions too.

Milwaukee tools kick ass. i can't imagine their meters being any less awesome than their power tools.

I have and love the Hanna meter (HI 9813-6) gohydro links to and have heard awesome things about BlueLab Truncheon meters also.

if you are growing hydro - you may also consider a meter that sits in the res (continuous) so you don't have to mess with it at all - just read the output.

i guess other than word of mouth there is no real way to discern whether a meter is worth a shit, huh?
