Over 6 is fine. Plants take up various nutrients at various Ph's from what i gather. The short story is you are worrying about this far too much, lots of folk don't bother with a ph meter at all. Soil is very forgiving when it comes to ph, unless of course you're feeding it a ph of 3 etc ;)

I run mine 6.2-7.4 I don't even check it much. I know it's going to hit in that range.

Not sure if "don't worry about it" is the best answer. It's not always about getting the water pH'd in range, you need consistency across all waterings else you start shocking the plant. My natural pH ranges from 5.6 (max feed bloom nutes) to 7.8 (plain tap), if I didn't keep the pH consistent within ~.5 every watering my plants would be quite unhappy. No way I could get away with not measuring and adjusting as needed.

I have to agree with stumps and Wetdog ... one of the joys of soil is no pH worries. The correct number is "dolomite" or a good soil that contains it. I'm running Happy Frog and never think about pH. If you buy nasty budget soil that is heavy with wood chips and peat ... you are likely to experience pH woes. Jm$.02. cn

I just have to say your flat out wrong. Your plants could care less about a 2. swing so long as it stays in the usable range. everything your plant uptakes does so at a slightly different ph. Your better off letting it move around some. less chance of lockout. i use lime at 1 tsp per gallon of soil.

6.5 is ideally for plant to intake the nutrient real good...but i ve been seen that plant can tolerate at the 8.0 as well i dont know about anyone but from my personal exprience, no problem with mine...but really help is add the lime it will buffer pH in long term...i ve always use water tap (7.9) to water my plants...i think the soilless is the best thing to balance with water tap IMHO.

Haha okay, if you say so.

I learn something new around here every day. :)
