Ph drop in DWC

5 gal tote, ph drops from 6 to 5 twice a day. I use ro water with 1/2 tsp calmagic,1/2 tsp of each on flora series nutes per gal. Plant looks good but a little light green on newer growth. It’s definitely not as dark green on the new growth as the one I have in coco but older leaves are same darkness. Ppm meter will be here today hopefully. Roots look white. The plant is afghan kush and 5 weeks old and I just flipped the lights to 12/12 night before last. After res change the ph rises a little but not bad then falls and keeps falling. Anyone know what I could do to help fix this.

2 ideas:
1. not enough water volume to keep pH stable. the bad part about using only a 5 gal container
2. root rot. you don't mention anything to prevent root rot. address that issue.

I use great white and res temps stay in the 70s. I can only keep slightly under 3 gal in the res. A bigger res would be nice.

i would say no on the root rot possibility. i'd use the great white however they recommend.

really only thing else you can do is buy like a 27 gal tote and cut a hole to transfer the net pot into.

3 gallons just wont' stay stable unfortunately.

3 gal of water in a 5 Gal container just isn't enough water volume to keep pH stable. Add a reservoir of like 20 gallons at least and connect it together at the bottoms with bulkheads. Then use a pump to run a waterfall from it into the site! :)

Thanks airwalker I could do that. That would keep me from ph up 3 times a day. Now you got me thinking.

Not could. You Will.
If you wanna have a lot easier time adding water, a steady pH, way less time between adding water and overall healthier plants. The waterfall will also allow you to unplug your air pump and rid yourself of the air stone too.

I didn’t know the roots would grow this much. The clear tote is just to show the roots.

Curious why you have an extension on your spray head closer to the water? I plumb mine into the top of the site as high as I can purposefully for more air time.

To aim it out to the middle of the site where I want it. Water level is right below the pots so I cant raise it any more anyway.

I just got a ppm tester and calibration solution. My ppms are 190. I use RO water 1/2 tsp calmajic and 1/2 tsp 3 part flora bloom. How do I get the right ppms?

so they went from 400 to 190 in a day?

if so, that's good. they are good eaters. i'd bump up the 400 to maybe 600 or 700 and see if it keeps dropping

Heck ya
How should I go about bumping it up? Can I mix the nutes in 1/4 gal add that or can I put it straight in the res with the roots.

this is the time to get some syringes to measure how much you are giving them.

you give them a 1/2 tsp right? ok , lets find out if that is 2 , 2.3., 2.5 mL per gallon. accuracy is important i think.
now lets say you are giving them 2mL per. so if you bump it up to 4mL, you should be close to 800 ppm, right?

and then keep going with the 1:1:1 ratio of the three part. seems like its' working. use your ppm meter to see how much they are eating and how much to feed them.
make sense?

Ok so can I put the nutes one by one directly in the res with the roots? Or should I change the res agian? It's just a 5 gal.
