peyote?

hey,
i'm really interested in growing a peyote cactus. it is just the one interesting thing i've never been able to get my hands on, so i don't care how long it takes, or how much effort is involved i'd really like to grow some. i can't seem to find seeds that will ship to the U.S. also i am reading a lot of contradictory information regarding grafting to other cacti and different opinions on which cactus grows the mescaline buttons at all, so if anybody has some ligitimate knowledge to pass on i would appreciate it.

Yotes are cool, but you need quite a few, and quite a few years, even when grafting, which can be done with little problems...
Look into peruvian torches and san pedro cacti, all of which grow easily from seed, and will provide you your dose of mesca long before the yote.

i love cacti! i wanted to grow a peyote but i think it takes even longer tha nthe ones i currently have.

i have a peruvianus, san pedro and el pedor which are basically the same pachanoi. the peruvian one is meant to contain 10x more mescalin than the pedros but they are all awesome.

they are really slow growing but can gain at least a foot per summer while their young but when they reach adult hood (i think 4-5 years old) they boom and can get as big as trees.

i am very surprised you cannot find anywhere that will ship peyote seeds to the US!!?? chec k ebay and basically if you google most sites are actually in the US or close by so you shouldn't have any problems what so ever.

all of mine are about 1 foot high now but i can't wait until they get bigger so i propogate them.

i was under the impression that peyote was the only true mescaline producer, i am willing to believe otherwise, could someone just state......"i've eaten san pedro, and it did everything i expected it to"

can anyone refer a site they have actually used? the sites i've found look.........shady?

it's unfortunate how much misinformation stains this knowledge.

i have some lophophora williamsii seeds i think they take 3-5yrs if cultivated and 20-25yrs in the wild plus to i heard theres diff alkaloids in peyote than san pedro/torches there slightly diff peaks

Use San Pedro (Echinopsis pachanoi).. they contain mescaline (less than peyote I believe) but then again, they grow larger and faster. They are easily available and don't take a *million years (like peyote).

*by a million years I mean like eight. lol.

My dad just brought some peyote from mexico, i got drunk off of it on saturday, it tastes nasty but it fucked me up.

? Peyote isn't alcohol... it contains mescaline, which is a hallucinogenic. You sure your dad didn't bring you back tequila? lol.

I know a few places that will send peyote seeds and like 6 month old cactuses to the USA. You may not want to grow then as buttons take years (I'm hearing 3-10 years). It is a nice plant but there are better alternatives. I recommend San Pedro. Grows faster and has mescaline. Just extract the mescaline from like a 1ft part of the cactus and that should be enough mescaline.

Yes, I have consumed San Pedro and yes it did everything I expected it to, and some things I did not expect it to do. Here's the preparation guide - Erowid San Pedro Preparation.

If you understand chemistry and can do an extract of the San Pedro I highly recommend it. Drinking that cactus slime was the single most disgusting thing I have ever done in my life. It was so bad in fact, I tossed out the rest of the cactus cuttings I had and instead grew a crop of Penis Envy Magic Mushrooms.

heh.. Once you have San Pedro (or any other cacti containing mescaline) the extraction into Mescaline HCl (pure crystals) isn't that difficult. I don't see a reason to drink this nasty shit.

Yo Shep, I'm very interested in doin an extract but when I was researching it way back when it required chemicals that the average person doesn't have access to. Is there a simple beginners guide with easily obtained items that you could share?

Besides "de-fatting" the cactus, it is a standard acid/base extraction. I am pretty sure some hardware stores (like I think my home depot) carries Xylene (which would be the only hard chemical to get). You can buy Muriatic Acid (dilute hydrochloric acid at any paint store). Sodium hydroxide is your base (although you can replace it with Potassium Hydroxide), sodium hydroxide is Lye e.g "Red Devil Lye"). Besides that you need some HDPE or like pyrex containers, distilled water, and pH papers.

You can do a real crude extract (which would be sufficient if you're not selling) using isopropyl alcohol (some people use everclear, but there is no reason not to use 91% rubbing alcohol). This would give you Mescaline (freebase), and if you wanted to get fancy and get some crystals you could most likely wash your product with muriatic acid.

Thanks Shepj... yup, really simple; if you're a chemist :). For the rest of us, I recommend growing shrooms instead. Eating the San Pedro cactus is revolting and even though the trip is great, its def not worth the cost of having to swallow down that green slime.

Yeah mushrooms have an advantage ONCE someone takes the time to learn how to grow them (which as you see by many posts on here) "How do I grow shrooms" or shit of that matter lol.

Good point shep! For me, growing shrooms is simple and for you chemical extraction is simple. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
