Perfect PH for Coco coir?

Hey RIU,

Just wanted to ask you lot what you find the best pH to run with salt based nutrients in coco? I am on my first grow and things are going well so for at 6.0.
I bought a good pH pen and EC meter, and have been diligent with my dosages. Just hoping I'm going at the optimum pH now.

Also I was wondering when the manufacturer of a nutrient line recommends a dosage for a plant of x age, it will have the recommended E.C. Of say 1.8, I'd like to know if they mean 1.8 EC of nutrient or is that 1.8 on top of what water you have? Say my water is. 0.2ec, should I run it a bit higher if the plants look like they are still hungry to make up the full recommended nutrient strength?

TIA, RIU!

When I still adjusted my pH, I started with 5.5 and then let it rise to about 6.2. Now I use AN pH-perfect coco nutrients and don't even bother checking my pH.

How long did it take to rise to 6.2?
I use house and garden cocos a & b, and even if I leave the mix sit for 20-30 mins, pH still stays the same..

If things are good at ph then stick with it. I vary mine from 5.8-6.2, if you run into any mag def or calcium def raise ph to 6.2ish.

My nutrients tell me the total E.C assuming I'm using standard water, your 1.8 would be including your E.C of your water I assume but not that familiar with H+G nutrients. I dare say the info may be available on their website.

Thanks for the reply, yes my ec is 1.8 including the 0.2 ec my tap water has already, so really I'm only getting 1.6ec from the h&g nutrients and whatever is also in the tap water.

So I am unsure if I should be using ec 1.8 total or 1.8 nutrients and the extra 0.2 from my tap water. There is zero signs of overfeeding, in fact it looks like there could be a little more feed as some of the leaves look like they could see a little boost of nitrogen to eliminate the slight faded like colour between the veins in some of the leaves. It has improved to almost what I would call perfect, as I raised the dosage, but I don't know if I should use any more.
Last thing I want is to turn an otherwise healthy plant into an overfed one.

I have hard water with an EC of around 0.5-0.6 so with a lot of strains I opt for a light feeding. Which once combined to my water adds up to 1.4-1.5 in veg. 1.6-1.7 in veg. 2.0 in once flower has started(after stretch, first formation of flowers) Up to 2.2 at its highest half way through and then lower it for final 3 weeks ish. If I have a heavy feeding strain I use the normal feed schedule which is about 0.2 more.

Sounds like your water is soft ish, normal tap at 0.4 E.C is considered standard by canna nutrients. But I am in Europe and canna is designed to be used with tap water. 0.2 would be considered soft water here and would be advised to use a heavy feeding. Using a heavy feed the E.C total I listed would stay the same.

End of the day if your feeding and seeing a need for stronger feed then increase it by a small amount and keep an eye on her. Some strains really hate heavy feeds and some can take crazy amounts. Read your plant.
Soft water has less trace minerals like calcium, magnesium ect.

Unfortunately I cannot find a H and G coco chart which shows the EC values to compare what I use to what you use.

Thanks for your reply also, so do you start your feed at 1.4 when they are young? And use a Max of 1.8 at what point can I ask? Just trying to see if I'm doing things the best way I can.
yes, corey has stated it well above, 1.4 is for established clones in 1 gallon. 1.8ec usually around weeks 5-7 in flower, then start lowering again. but most importantly, read your plants. if they look like they could use a touch more, give em another .2ec bump
