The concept is cool but is not practical in any military sense. First and foremost they are using a foam glider which can decrease to 0m/s very fast after changing the AOA. Secondly, how would claws, much like the ones used, be able to grab onto all surfaces, including smooth ones. And lastly, if it fails you lose a very expensive UAV

dude, tiny claws are how wasps and spiders cling walls too.

a foam model with a wee little camera and tiny metal velcro-like claws could cling to plenty of surfaces, and peep in windows, record conversations and observe who's there and thats pretty useful shit.

just cuz it doesnt have a .50 bmg pecker sticking out the nose or pack a 2 ton FAE bomb doesnt make it useless.

i recall reading summat like that in a book when i was in grammar school... damn i cant remember. imma look that shit up.

At that point why not just have a nano uav that is continuously flying? The thought of losing shit due to it hitting a wall wrong overcomes its potential. Just imagine it trying to function in wind or rain or snow. That complicates it even more. I think it's a cool idea, but it seems like the risks far outweigh the reward
 
I can see your point about the model being slightly inefficient FB, but the concept is a sound one and with further experimentation the application would have multiple uses.
 
This is cool and very usefull if you want a type of security camera around your place and not have to manually move a bunch of cameras around your place
