PC Grow - what size to choose?

Hi there,
I'm starting a project and first things first...

I am looking around for used PC cases, and they come in different sizes.
Obviously the bigger the better (for the plant) but it also comes down to higher prices.

Should a 53cm (20.8") tall and 22cm (8.6") wide PC case (Full-tower) be enough for a plant or two?

Thanks!

maybe I should ask it another way...

I have a PC Case which is 53cm (20.8") tall and 22cm (8.6") wide with room for up to 4 plants.

How high should the plants be before moving to flowering, in order not to incourage them to grow beyond the space limits?

it all depends on what ur trying to do with them.If you search on youtube you will see that some people veg/flower in the same pc case but their plants are super small.i was using a pc grow box for 1 plant and decided to move to something bigger and better for the fact that my plants werent going to give me a good yield. you can force a plant to flower once it gets about 5" tall. the lights depends on you. i leave mine on 24 hours thru veg cycle.some people use 18/6 so they can save $,some people start 12/12 from seed.it all depends on how you want to run ur lights.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm gonna use CFLs (2 or 4 2700K (~30W) with another 2 or 4 6500K (~30W)). I intend to run them 18/6 veg and 12/12 to flower.

I don't mind the low yield compared to larger plants. I don't have much choice, it has to be stealthy and compact so a cabinet is a no go...
It's for personal use (1 person) only. If I get more than 7 grams each run it'll be a save of money (I did the calculations...), more than 20 grams and i'll be smoking everyday for the rest of the life of this project (I don't smoke that much...) :)

So you suggest i flower them once they hit 5"? how tall do they get if i do so? i only have room for plants about 11" tall, maybe a couple of inches more...

I know it's not absolute science and it also depends on the strain, but generally i don't want to get to the point the plants more head room they don't have...

You know what might work... just try this: Grow one plant but do a SCROG. Veg for maybe 2 weeks (4-6in) then throw her into flower. If you can train her well enough (fill up most of the holes) you would get a real decent yield (more so than growing two plants normally)

Excellent suggestion! thank you so much!

Right now i'm thinking how to set the Screen, whether horizontal (small, as the dimensions of the case are 23" x 9") or vertical (larger - 23" x 21"). problem with the vertical solution is that i have to figure out how to place the lamps so they don't come between me and the plant...

if u only got 11" of space u would need to send into flower at 5". they will double or triple in height in flower stage.

Now I have to think about how high to place the Screen if i'm going to put it horizontally... still haven't thought it through...
Thanks for confirming that measure Rasta!

Ignore the morons telling you to flower at five inches please.

low stress training and topping are vital skills for pc grows.

What about the CFLs? I want to make them portable, so i just place them a couple of inches above the plants?
I've seen some vids on youtube and around where people who used SCROG (and got beautiful yield out of 1 short plant) didn't put the lights close to the plants, instead the lights were stationary at the top of the grow box. was it just coincidence?
As far as i understand the plants need light and as much of it as possible, so in mind the lights should always be close to the plants... am i right?

You are correct, the closer the CFL, the better. I guess I'm a "moron" though for telling you to flower at 5 inches :) Guess he didnt care to notice that you're doing scrog.

But he has a point there, I need to train the plant. and if I understand what training means. then the light should be far from the plant in order for it to stretch. then when it stretches i bend the branches and tie them to the screen...
no?

And by the way, I read somewhere that topping is only good if I want to take a clone, otherwise i'm wasting a branch (there was a remark in the thread i read that topping wont give me two branches out of the one I cut...)

no?

Not necessarily. For scrog you want to completely fill up the screen before putting the girl into flower. If you put the lights too far away and fill up the screen too early, the stem wont be strong enough to support the buds that will form in flower. Best to keep the lights close and train/fit the stems through the screen.

As for topping, that is how you achieve many cola's to begin with. Im not sure what topping has to do with taking clones (??) as clones are taken from the bottom sides and topping is done at the 4/5 node.
