Passive Intake Enough or Not?

Hi Guys

I have done a few grows here in the UK and weather is getting really bad now, is it possible do you guys think to do away with the intake fan and just have a passive intake until the weather becomes a little warmer? I can slow the intake down however with a speed controller but i am wondering if i can just switch it off altogether and it not cause me any problems?

Thanks in advance
Steve

What's your volume? Comes down to some math, I've never used an active intake, just active exhaust. If you can keep the temp stable and still move adequate air to cycle the volume (every 5 minutes is plenty) then you are fine. If it's still too cold in there go with a heating unit adequate for the space. I can get away with a 100W tiny ceramic heater during the winter with 4.25 liters of air volume.

This is opinion meant to be taken as such. Perhaps it will assist you in your thought process.

Cheers,

Can't see there being any problems

If its more or less a standard setup, 6 inch inline for exhaust and 4 inch inlet or axial, then -

Unplug it....

Just try it. If it rips your tent apart. Its not good.

If it doesn't, your good.

The weight and fan I run I would say. Your MORE then fine. What brand of tent?

That being said... I say that with common sense. If your running a 12 inch exhaust, i wouldn't go full bore without some math. But.. the area inside isn't empty. So, math is close ish.

Hope your girls are happy

Hi people thanks for the advice upto now, my tent is a grotex, 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m Tall, i run an active 5 inch outake and 4 inch Intake, tent is solid it wouldnt go anywere if i was to remove the intake as i can also turn down the outake to stop that happening even if it was to happen...

Also to Enigma, i run a 6inch circular fan inside constantly blowing air around and i already use a oil rad inside the tent that helps somewhat but im getting top temps of 21-22 and lowest being 15 when lights are off as it stands, but without the intake i get top temps of 27s and lowest being 20s in that region anyway

That is the coldest part, in currently on 18/6 and i run them from 3pm until 9am which is the coldest time, bloody UK weather for you, and i live in the North, this winter has been mild we usually get down to minus 10 degrees celsius but this year the lowest has be 3 degrees so ive been quite lucky
