Over Water

The roots stay "soggy" and eventually the plant will die. By the way, overwatering doesn't mean "adding too much water", it means "watering too often".

Your roots won't have any O2 because they'll basically be drowning. If you stick your finger down into the soil a few inches and it's still moist, not time to water. On the dry side, it's time to water.

mines outdoor in the ground and it's real hot over here so I have to like water every other day and i'm just afraid i might be over watering them. when I use a stick to poke down and pull it up it's kinda moist and my holes are 2 feet wide 2 feet deep and the plant does look healthy.

Since your Mary is outdoor, just watch for the plant's indication it needs water. The plant and fan leaves will start to droop downward. Once you see this, then you can water and will see the plant and leaves all jump back upwards...happy as ever!

Peace
