Hey friends,
entering the mildish winters in my zone makes me pine for outdoor growing again. i can't safely -or maybe easefully is a better word, not sure- do that where i live now even though it is rural and there is lots of space and cover. do any of u start indoors and finish outdoors? i am starting to like indoor growing and now i have a small toolkit of supplies liek lights, etc. but the outdoor grow is in my genes and jeans. is it realistic to have just one good outdoor grow in southern maine, a good veggie and herbal garden too? i'm not worried about deer and such eating my grow; my dogs wouldn't put up with it. would be heavenly to grow outdoors without a panic everytime an aircraft flies by. thanks for ur input. :)

was also thinking of attaching a southern facing greenhouse to the cabin i might get- bring in a lot of light to the cabin to make it seem bigger and also use the space for my gardens.

look for something that finishes early and is resistant to bud rot.. those are our issues in this area

thanks indagrow. i'd prolly have to start indoors. not sure how early the ones i settle for will do. just starting to experiment with different strains. but appreciate the heads up on bud rot. thanks :)

hmm, title should be "or northern maine, i guess. not northern magneto, the keys seem to do their own typing at times. sorry about confusion, if any.

And here I was thinking it was some secret Shangri-La between Aroostook and the Canadian border lol
I kid

rofl, haven't ruled out a secret shangri-la in aroostook. more n more looking further north as i get my fill of "as is" where the sellers don't even bother to clean up the place. looks like some growers ripped out the walls to take the white paint with them. my budget is very low but i just went through a construction where i had to clean up a lot of garbage left behind,,, about 8k$ worth of garbage removal.... n would rather build another place than have to clean up after anyone again. so i've lowered my standards in another way :) just a good three month grow outdoors - start indoors all my veggies and plants - finish outdoors and keep miniature fruit trees don't know about my milk goat yet. maybe a very hairy goat will be okay in a small barn. straw bale walls would make good insulation, i could build the small barn sharing a wall to my tiny home - n a door -if only i could build :) found some goat farmers in maine so need to read more about how they do things.... wheels r turning :) more than u wanted 2 know, i'm sure. lol

I am not an outdoor grower, but I know people who do. I even supply the clones sometimes. The already short season can be cut even shorter like it did this year. Early cold temps, wet fall with mold issues, not a great year for outdoor I would think. I'm sure some folks did fine too.

thanks :) it will really help a lot to go up there and look around and get a feel for the different areas. i've lived in a cold rainy forest on the north side of a mountain and the body acclimates after a year but i didn't have to worry about growing my food and meds at the time. puts a different spin on things. very grateful for your help.

Legal outside grows need to be behind some kind of lockable fence, green house, etc so that your plants cant be seen (like by the neighborhood kids). So the greenhouse idea sounds best. Then you don't have to worry about shitty fall weather.

discrepancy where google earth shows address and where google shows address at real estate ad but it says
Buildable, level, wooded, surveyed, dry, and it shows a southern facing slope :) no worries though. having just gotten burned in my latest real estate transaction, i will investigate thoroughly before i sign. so far no one i've contacted has replied to my inquiries. maine has a mysterious way of doing business :) not one has volunteered to be a buyer's agent. so it will take a little while- i am not ready to show my cabin with a big grow tent in the middle of it, rofl.... but ima
looking. in a few months i will be ready.but this one isn't trashed! and its in my price range. woohoo! geting closer :) thanks for letting me share the excitement.
