outdoor growing questions

So I'm mainly an indoor grower but i stumbled in here a few days ago and got interested. Damn you guys grow some big plants. I've been reading up but cant find to much info so I've got a few questions. sorry if their a bit noobish, if you could point me towards a good outdoor thread or something with alot of info that would be great.
So when should I plant outside? I'm thinking as soon as temps are a stable 75 and there wont be any more frosts.
How often would I have to check them, this would be a guerilla grow and I'm not concerned with people finding it but it would just be to suspicious if I go everyday. Would once a week be enough?
What kind of yields can be expected? I know this is an unanswerable questions but I'm just wondering what most people get on a per plant basis

Plants need a certain temperature to grow. Plants also need a certain temperature to grow optimally. The same is for food/water. You can give just enough to keep the plants alive or you can give them enough to grow optimally.

Are you looking to 'just get by' or are you looking to maximize your time and energy.

Depending on what book you read will tell you what the optimal range for temp is. In general, mid 70's is a great temp (a little warmer for beginning plants).

However, will they grow at 65 degrees? Of course...just not as robust as a plant at 75 degrees.

The good news, is there is no right or wrong, there 'just is'.

On the other hand, watering and feeding is might need a bit more attention. The most I've ever done without watering was three days...but that's my set up.

My suggestion....

Get your plants situated (fully fed) and for the first week visit the plants every day. How many days before the plants start to show signs of being hungry? There you have it.

Now, keep in mind as the plant gets bigger they will need more water/food. Do your test again. Feed them X amount (consistently) and go back every day until you see when they need to be fed.

I don't think they'll last a week without either dying or causing stress (therefore, stunted growth). If you find out it takes three days before they start to wilt then feed them every two days. It's not smart to wait until the plants wilt before watering.

I hope this helps.

Merry Christmas!

I understand all that, I know the more time and effort put into the crop the better it is. But what I guess I'm asking is if there is somewhere someone can point me to a large quantity of good info about growing outside. I've got the basic jist down but would like to find some more reading on specific outdoor growing techniques/tips/strategies, etc.

If you are an indoor grower you should already have more than enough knowledge to be a successful outdoor grower. The plants need the same nutrients indoor or out, but the beauty is that outdoors you don't need to do as much work! The key, and honestly the only thing that is really totally under your control is the soil mix and the nutes you feed to it throughout the life. Some Soil mixes can even be prepared so that only water needs to be added. Other than that it just the sun above and and water!

As far as more information i would look into the organics sub forum and definitely give subcool's section a good reading. I used a variation of his super soil mix, which can be found here.

Welcome to the great outdoors!

if you plan to put the plants in the ground they wont need to be watered as much because it will hold moisture much longer than in a pot. i can see a grow where you only attend to it once a week. it would be a bitch not to see them for the last few weeks of flowering because you will want to see those beautiful buds chunk up daily lol.

i wouldnt plant outdoors until april or after. i think planting too early might stress the plant by making it think its time to flower because the days might be too short for veg. to be on the safe side plant sometime in april, they will have plenty of time to bush up. (5 feet tall at least) and other trees and bushes will have grown and made the new foliage of the spring to provide the cover you need for a guerilla grow.

In my opinion this is the best 20 dollars a grower can spend. Covers in depth every field of growing in any conditions. Nutrients, lights, outdoors, indoors, hydro. Also has a reference guide to any problems your plant may have. Also has harvesting, drying, curing instructions. EVERYTHING!!!! Haha a very good buy in my opinion. Also another note about planting time as a general rule of thumb for whatever area you may live in is 2 weeks after the last expected frost, its a safe reliable option and will help reduce shock. Have a safe and happy grow.
