Organic Ripeners??

I"ve got two plants in 25 gallon smartpots that had grown in SuperSoil when in 15 gal pots. When i transplanted i didn't have any more SS so i just put them in more organic soil...no extra amendments.

My question is....would a ripener be necessary? My first run with super soil a season ago (indoor) i noticed that none of my bud never really had a strong aroma to it...i was suggested that i use a ripener and this would bring out more aroma.

What organic ripeners are good to use? I notice that synthetic ripeners have a high dose of P and K like M.O.A.B. (Mother of all Blooms).

Should i stay away from this stuff and just use guano as a ripening agent?

your suggestions please! need help.

thanks

I second that, Wetdog. Add some kelp meal to your high P guano and you should be set.
ok...well how much Kelp Meal?

when i do my guano tea...i use 225ml (1 cup) for ever 5 gal of water...how much kelp meal should i use?

I could be wrong here, but doesnt kelp meal contain the same stuff as SuperThrive (growth hormone triacontanol (sp?)). This isnt something you want to dose your plants with in late bloom. I think that will have the opposite affect than you are looking for.

hmmmm....something to think about...after giving it more thought...i'm not quite sure if SuperSoil provides enought P & K for the late flowering (ripening)..

After all, when you constantly watering, doesn't most of your NPK get flushed out? I think this was the reason why my first run with SS never really ripenned my buds.

I've got a sample size of M.O.A.B. (mother of all blooms) so i'm going to try this in a couple of weeks. Although its not organic, i'll give it a try and flush the crap out of my plants at the end.

Nutrients will not "flush out" of super soil. The nutrients are mostly in solid form (like you added them). The living organisms in the soil process these solids to provide a "slow release" of soluble nutrients to your roots. You likely just didn't have enough super soil in the pot. Did they fade to yellow/purple/gold colors before harvest?

the leaves did fade, however, i never achieved the aroma thats characteristic of the flowers we grow. Even @ week 9 when all my hairs were receding...it never had a smell to it...i grew 4 different strains..

i'm thinking they never had enough P & K in the last weeks of flowering....and if is a slow release, they may have been the problem. they weren't getting enough P & K at the right time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you won't get your true odors per type of plant unless they are properly cured. It all smell pretty strong and pungent until curing. Then the subtle lemons, citrus, or berries really show up. Google terpenes. MOAB worked excellent here. Night and day.

U r right. The true odors and aromas come out after trimmimng and curing. Since my last post, I've come to the conclusion that aromas have more to do with genetics. So I've acquired some clones of strains that are more favorable to me. I've also come to the conclusion that organics is a much trickier method of growing. So as a novice, my fourth growing season I decided to go with growing in coco and the heavy 16 line of nutes.
