And was wondering, obviously given my..peculiarities I'll be handling the bulb with gloves, my question is thus : Are mechanic's gloves with the grip on them okay or no?

I'd use fresh rubber gloves, unless they're brand new and haven't been used/handled. The whole point is to keep any grease or oil off the bulb, so if those gloves are used for working, bad idea.

Isn't it bad to turn an HPS bulb off and quickly turn it on; shouldn't you wait 20 minutes or something?

Just handle it with a clean paper napkin or clean paper towel and you'll be fine.

@nedyah That's a hot start and not good for the bulb at all. Usually five minutes is sufficient. There are control systems that will not let a bulb be restarted within 5 minutes of shut off. I've done it on accident a couple times and my bulbs seem no worse for wear. I run 2 400w HPS.

I was planning on buying them new, it's just that the auto zone by me has a deal on them.

Are the gloves the disposable powdered type? If you're talking about the "Mechanic's Glove" and only using it for your bulbs then that would be fine too. But clean paper napkin is the cheapest way.

I put clean cotton socks on my hand to use as gloves. Don't want anything to accidently melt to my bulb . Rubber , grease , ect.
