If you watch the Harley Smith videos, he talks in some of them about how red light promotes root growth. So I switched to 2700k for cloning and have had great success. I then switch to 4000k for veg and then to 3000k for flower (I have separate areas for each) No need to spend much on the cloning area either, just pick up a few 2700k led bulbs and pop the diffusers off. I only do a few. clones at a time and use 2x 15w bulbs for that, so no need to build a fixture for that.

i have a bunch of the A19 LED bulbs kickin around i think ill take 2 trays and do one under 2700k and one under 5000k next time and see if one roots faster
There is no carpet pad under it, and I'm not prone to dumping water on it, so its not a big concern to me. When ever I get around to painting it, I might pull it up, but I'm not sweating it.
