Ok so im a comercial electrician I have access to a few multi tap ballast hi bay 400w metal halides.

This may be a stupid question? I was just wondering if the yput off to much heat since the ballast isnt remote

Does any one use these for growing ? I have a basement so heat shouldnt be to bad its not enclosed ot anything. The girls will be in a open area.

Im thinking about just wireing it up and going for it.

Im just not happy with the way my buds are turning out growing with CFLS

I totally used one like that for my first veg room!. If you are in an open area I don't think heat will be that big of a deal! Mh bulbs are better for veg. I'm sure they will be an improvement over your cfls though!

why not remote the ballast?
and get some walls up.even cardboard painted white.the reflected light will do wonders

You will be fine man, think about before they had industry built hid for our purpose all ppl used was actual lighting fixtures. Obviously it will bring a little more heat into the growspace but if you have enough air movement and ventilation you will be fine.

Right on bro I'm a commercial electrician too

Just remove the socket and add additional wire between it and the ballast. i wouldnt go over 10 ft with a magnetic ballast. I would snag a couple if available for parts. You could even add an igniter to one of them and fire HPS bulbs.

One more question The light i got is a hubble It doesnt matter what ignitor I get right?

I think im just going to order a Sylvania

i had one..i seprated the socket from the ballast , cost me whatever 10ft of wire did. I had a HPS tho....there not efficient and they get a lil warmer..but they work good for free or cheap lol
