It is beneficial (in my experience) to utilize a wider range of nutrients. Most floral stores and gardening supplies carry a Micro-nutrient containing Calcium, Sulfur and Magnesium. There are additional supplements containing Iron, but I've never found those to be noticeably beneficial. Find one that is water-soluble; many nutrients are soil-soluble but they can become more potent when the soil/substrate is in a limited area over time.
Additionally, NPK is obviously the most necessary nutrients. Find a fert higher in Nitrogen (N) than Phosphorus & Potassium (P & K) during the vegetative state. When you initiate flowering, use a fertilizer higher in P than N & K. About two weeks before you harvest, run clean spring water and douse the plant. Any residual growing chemicals will clear out and won't make it to the buds you'll be smoking.
Hope this helps, nutrients are ALWAYS important, plants simply cannot thrive without them.
