How will an EMT know someone is gay? Will gay people in Michigan be required to wear a rainbow patch on their clothing at all times or something? Will EMT's require patients to sign off on their "Non Gay" status before working?

NO, Ridiculous.

what will happen is that EMT's will have to sign a waiver stating that they will give every person equal treatment before they are hired. Even if the bill were somehow passed, an EMT would still need a religious reason to deny service. The bill just allows small business owners who are highly religious discriminate on those grounds only. Which is fine by me, good luck in your soon to fail business.

So, you'd have no qualms with an EMT refusing medical treatment for you or a loved one because you've offended their religious sensibilities?

To be honest, it would suck, but I don't believe I have the right to FORCE an EMT to give me medical treatment anyway. I'm grateful if they do, expect them to, but if they have a legitimate reason (to them) for not giving me treatment I don't think there is much I can say.

The cool thing is, I can probably sue the city over it and make some lawyers some cash. The EMT would get a paid leave and possibly early retirement with full pension and depending on his religion be a martyr or a leper.

It depends on the standards.

If the standard says that people are going to be FORCED to respect "religious freedom", then they HAVE to respect the EMT's freedom to CHOOSE who they work on, just as they would have to respect their manner of attire, grooming, etc...

IF, on the other hand, the standard says religious freedom is SECONDARY to the demands and requirements of any given career field, as it SHOULD BE, mind you, then that EMT shouldn't be hired in the first place.

I call BS. You would be happy to just sue the city if say a muslim refused to treat your mother with a simple life saving procedure because your mother was say a Christian and it was against his religion to do so. BS BS BS. Not gonna try to get him thrown in jail? Just gonna give him a hug and say "hey man, you did what you were allowed to do." BS.

What's clear to me is that no one should be denied anything (particularly a life saving procedure) based solely on someone's version of the sky fairy story. An EMT that did so, and caused a death that could have been prevented should be charged with a crime.

If you're an EMT, treat people. If you're a baker, make fucking cakes.
