"The majority of the applicants are under 36 and well educated, with 347 holding bachelor's degrees, while 159 have a master's and 29 have an M.D.

The candidates who make the final round of the competition will be selected during a reality game show elimination process, in which up to 40 contestants per country will be competing with each other for one slot from that nation."

No thanks, who wants to live in a bubble w/no real sunlight...and how would I transport my clones?.

I wanted to go! Boss lady said "nope." Guess she wants to be stuck on this same old rock for the rest of her life...

And, Joe, I'd be bringing seeds, too!

Think there would be a lot of stretch in the plants, if it was a green-house grow?

It will be a famous death for all involved and those left here will ask, was it worth it, biggest experiment known to man...or Kubrick's final cut ;)

Why does everyone assume they will just die? It's completely possible to assemble a self sustaining environment on mars. Everythings there: the math, the science, the technology. There will ridiculous amounts of money going into this, they will not half ass it.

Yes I agree that science and the others will be there but to me there is one factor that no matter how smart we think we are, it's going to be our downfall... arrogance.

The "unknown" needs to be addressed and it needs to be fully understood, there will be no rescue attempt for this mission and what exactly are we going there for anyways, terraforming is but a classroom project, sure it could work in theory and yet the real world application of such a thing is just not possible...yet.

I see the need for this but it's not the same as delivering pizza by drone and I hope that I'm wrong in my assumptions.

My money is on Murphy's Law of Mechanism.

An $85M liquid-recovery unit WILL fail in order to protect a 50¢ fuse.
