One plant bubble system - help?

I'm about to create a one plant bubbleponics system with a large coffee can, a net pot, aquarium bubble tubing, and an air pump connected to the bubble tubing with a tube going through the lid. My question is: What are some cheap acceptable grow mediums that I could find at say Meijer's? Also, do I need any nutes for seedlings?

Pics soon when I start building it.

Peace :joint:

I have never personally used them but I have been told you can use lava rocks and you can find them anywhere they are normally sold for gas bar bq grills

The metal from your coffee can will rust fast,
I hope you are using a plastic coffee container.

I built it and yes Earl, it is a metal coffee can. I thought about that just as I was starting to put the water in. I took a seedling out of soil and rinsed its roots in a 1/8 strength water/fish emulsion solution and then put it into the bubbleponics system and over night the [severely nute burnt] plant showed several signs of new healthy growth. As for a medium, I went with some decorative glass pebbles my girlfriend had around. Now that I have a feel for building it, I'm going to go get a larger res and build a better two plant system that won't be as ghetto.
Thanks for the replies guys.

The salt in the nutes will eat the coffee can pretty quickly
and add too much Iron to the solution.
Your plants will eventually become iron toxic.

They make plastic coffee containers,
if you want to stay small.

Yes.. I may just switch to a plastic one after I make it to the store for coffee... I can't believe the rate of growth it's showing. I'm using no nutes right now; is that a bad idea?
Actually, I did add about a drop of fish emulsion to the res, but not much at all.

Thanks for the advice.

buy a 5 gallon bucket and lid from home depot, a coffe can is too small youre PH and PPm's are gonna fluctuate to much cause thres not enough water. Plastic bucket and your done hell buy 2 and use one for nute flushes, But just my opinion no on the coffe can idea. And no nutes till you get a couple nodes going at least.

i've seen many things used..2 liter bottles, milk jugs, small little food storage boxes, just about anything plastic just paint it black or put something around it so the roots dont get any light

Whats up man? I scrapped my last grow because she suffered some bad light burns and I thought I would try a fresh hydro grow. I'm very interested about this hydro store. I've been looking for one close to here. PM some details for sure.

I just built a small two plant bubble system with a "Tupperware" container. I've got one plant in it and it's growing like CRAZY. I still am amazed at how fast they grow in hydro. I'm beginning to wonder why anyone bothers with soil...

Anyway, hit me up with that hydro store info please.

Peace :joint:

P.S. Going to check out your journal now.

Yeah i try to keep as much water as possible in my unit.

The more solution you have the less you have to worry about it. I try to keep about 20 gallons in my tote. water stays cooler, ph is more stable, and the ppm stays good
