ok to plant a seed that is cracking open? (in the middle of germination)

Hey all, I'm glad there is a central forum for newbies, I feel like I fit right in. (lol)

I am germinating some weed seeds and one of them has started to open. I can see the root, but the root is still inside the shell.

I wana know if I should put it into the soil right now or wait a while for the root to come out a little more.
I know this is some trivial newbie bullshit and it probably doesn't really matter if I put the seed into the soil now or not, but? fuuck, I think it will be better If I put the seed into the soil right away rather than let it just sit where it is.

What do you all think?

Mines where showing aswell just alittle.

I put mine in soil today don't think it will do any harm.

People say that germinating the seeds are just to see if the seed is alive or not.

Once is shows the taproot alittle you then know its alive and then you can put it in to soil.

What I do is soak my seeds in water till the tap root sprouts, then I put them in soil to tap root down and wait for her to show leaves.

It does seem logical to put the seed into the soil asap.

As for germinating... I'm not really all that experienced with this (yet), but with weed seeds, I think its good to get a small plate/dish and fill it with a bit of water and to drop the seeds into the water so that they're under the water.
Leave then in the water for no more than a day. Also, while they are drenching in the water i think you should gently tap them to force them to sink to the bottom of the water. That way you can tell that they have soaked in a sufficient amount of water.
THEN put the seeds onto a wet paper towel, allowing them to stay wet, but not allowing them to be submerged in the water. Also its probably best to keep them in a dark place so that the light doesn't hurt the root when it cracks open. =)

Thanks for the quick replies everyone :)

Seed number 1 has just incriminated me by coming to life and is now in the soil.

I got some blue berry auto's =) (R.i.p to the first two plants I ever grew and accidentally killed last week with root hormone. May my new seeds prosper)

Agree with planting in soil already once seed cracks ready to be planted. It's ideal to soak for 12-24 hours in water then place directly into soil or potting medium. Forget any other method ex paper towel method. Check out some of uncle bens post if should really help you out. Good luck
