Ohio Outdoor Bagseed Guerrilla Grow 2014

Hey everyone,

This is going to be a grow log documenting my first outdoor grow in northeast Ohio. Since it’s guerilla style, I won’t have the luxury of maintaining my plants 24/7…unless I start them indoors under 2 T 12 40W 6500k fluorescent tubes. The indoor period will have to be stealthy, so I prefer to be there whole time to keep any nosy people away. This will occur over a 10 day period this Easter break. I’m hoping 10 days is enough time to get them to a good spot to where they can be transplanted outdoors (End of April). If not, I may be able to go 2 weeks and a few days, but we’ll see.

At the time of writing I have some bagseed I’ve kept from good stuff – 6 that look promising and a few ‘maybes’.

I plan to start them in a line under the T 12 after germinating with the paper towel method. Once sprouted, I’ll place them in 16 oz solo cups in some starter soil. (Note: It’s ferted at .07-.05-.04) I’m not sure if that’s problematic, but they’d only be given distilled water at this point. They’d sit under the fluoro for a period of time mentioned above, and then be moved to the stealth patch for the remainder of their days.

The areas I’ve chosen are secluded and in the middle of the woods. Both areas are on south-ish facing slopes and will have holes previously dug. I plan just to till the soil and break up any chunks (I may or may not add some FFOF to the native soil) and about 20-25% perlite. Each plant will be separate and be in holes approx. 2x2x2. To prevent deer and other animals I have fishing line I can ‘cage’ each plant in.

I’ve heard good things about Jack’s Classic ferts and the prices are very reasonable. I've chosen the Dynamic Duo because it was on sale if both were bought and it was a total of $22 with shipping. What I’m still unsure of doing is alternating the ferts between waterings (All purpose 20-20-20 and Bloom Booster 10-30-20). As it stands I think I’ll just go all purpose for veg and bloom for flower. Any advice is appreciated. Also, how frequently should I add ferts to my water? If anyone has experience with Jack’s Classic an amount would be great, too. From what I understand: start a few weeks into vegging after a few leaf sets and do ¼ teaspoon per gallon to start. Then water with nutes every 3rd or so watering.

I’m just playing around with ideas at this stage, but I was curious about taking clones. If I could take one or two from each plant after about 6-7 weeks I would be able to be home to fend off the nosy people, as I’m off of school. That means I could take a clone end of May/beginning of June and have them outdoors mid-June. Does this seem to be a viable option to you? I have a suitable dome and would only need to get rooting plugs and some rooting gel.

Also, I plan on topping and then doing LST all the way through for maximum yield.

Additional info: I have some compost currently in-progress and it will definitely be done in time for spring. What would you guys suggest? Currently my options look like: 1)Use it instead of OF and till into soil, 2) Topdress each plant later on (with or without OF), or 3) Make a tea.

Did I mention that without the cost of FFOF or the rooting supplies this grow will cost <$40? Not bad for a learning experience!

Questions and comments are welcome!

Got some good news today. Great actually. I found a ballast for the fluoro tubes, which eliminates that cost. Even better I found some Peter's Professional 20-20-20 plus micronutrients in the garage. As an added bonus there was some deer and other animal repellant spray. You never know what's in that box up on the shelf, I guess.

Love when a plan seems to fall together!

So slight change in plans. The 4 foot t12s are going to be in use now for veggies..damn. So I've constructed a grow box, lined it with white paper and threw in 3 8-watt t5s and a 15-watt t8 grow light. If need be I can add another one of the 15-watters. I'm starting out 5 seeds now with the paper towel method and will place the ones that sprout in a peat moss/perlite mix (probably 50/50). Then during my break I'll have that 10 period to harden them off and have then transplanted around May 1st. Sorry about the lack of pictures but I'm having problems with my camera. To compensate I'll be sure to be extra detailed :-)

Hey everyone. So since I planted the seeds on Monday, two have broken the surface and have put out the cotyledon leaves. Right now they're about 3/4 inch high and are looking good. tonight will also be the first night the lights go off. My light period will match that of the sun on May 1st, which is roughly 14 and a half hours.
