alright, is there an easy way to sheild one of those cheap digital balast? i don`t want to hear the you get what you pay for comments, i know that. i also know being a starving artist i`m lucky i could get what i got. anyway here`s the low down. last august i bought one of those ipower lights screwed with the cable some but only a couple channels no biggy. got through a grow and 3/4 through another, no problems or scares at all, last monday i got another of those lights, the old light is on from 4pm to 4am the new light is on from 4pm to 10am, tv is really screwed when both lights are on. didn`t bug me much until this morning at 10:30 when the cable truck pulled up outside. he went up the pole and checked some wires then took a picture of it, on his way down he stopped 1/2 way and took a pic of the pole. he then climbed back in to his truck and sat there looking down with a puzled look for about 20 min then drove off. i have a buddy 3 houses down running the same ballast and a cheaper one if you can believe that. lol.. is there an easy fix for this? i`m f`in broke should i just go back to the one light for now? i don`t have a freakin clue! the only reason i`m not legal is because i`m too broke to go to a dr. if i was legal i wouldn`t give a shit. any feedback is greatly apreciated!

First, make sure your cable wires are not running near your ballast. Reroute them if possible.

Make sure the ballast is grounded and the outlet is properly grounded.

You can shield the room with special paint or other covering. I cant speak to the effectiveness of this. There are some good threads if you google "shielding ballasts" or something similar.

You should consider the costs of a felony charge vs buying a better ballast.

it`s not a felony here but i don`t need any fines either, like you said cheaper to just get a good ballast. i think i solved my problem idk yet. i was smokin lunch with a guy i use to work with and he wants to swap a 1000 watt magnetic with my 2 600 digital plus throw me some cash. he just needs to run it by his old lady. he lives even further in the boonies than me, so far that they don`t have cable to screw up lol. and if that don`t fly i`m gonna try pokin through the next couple weeks under the one light sell them both when this grow is done and just get the one good 1000 watt

after googling how to shield a ballast i came across the company that made it and gave them a call and explained what was going on he said a ferrite core on the output, googled that and it turns out a couple bucks might solve the problem. can`t hurt to try.

lets just say i know things about cable. what that guy was most likely doing was looking for noise that is getting in their lines. only other reason he would be their is if he was called out by a neighbor. so if im right and hes looking for noise then it could be coming from your house or could be coming from a neighbors house. since you told me your tv messes up though its likely its coming from your house..they will eventually pinpoint it and knock if they do their job right but alot of techs hate to knock unexpectedly and they choose to instead either terminate your cable and leave a note to call them or just ignore it. the way for you to fix this is hard to explain i hope your well inclined for this stuff. so your cable will come to your house and either hit a splitter outside or inside either in the basement or attic..you need to find any splitter in your cable system turn on all tvs in the house and detach every cable line one by one to see if a tv is on that particular line and leave all unused lines unplugged this will help now as far as the tvs that are being affected you need to make sure the jumpers or little lines going from the outlet to the tv or cable box are newer and not old crimped style lines because that is where the interference gets into the lines..also make sure all connections are tight, if all connections are tight and cables arent ratty and old you likely will get rid of the noise problem..also disconnect any vcrs or ab switches and crap like that from your cable system

being a starving artist i`m lucky i could get what i got.!

I thought you were a successful businessman who liked capitalism. I guess something's failing somewhere if you're starving. I wish you better luck.

Hope you manage to sort your issue (maybe the store you bought the ballast from can help). :peace:

the starving artist is a figure of speach i`m actually about 10-20lbs overweight. i make pretty good money doin what i do but i rack up some big bills too. i did call the company and they gave me a remmedy pretty quik and cheap, if it doesn`t work i`ll get rid of them not a big deal. i just wanted an easy fix so i can use what i have without larry the cable guy knockin at my door. and idk what part of "i don`t want to drive 2hrs one way to get to a store to pay more money" that you don`t understand so i can`t explain that to ya. i can still get the better quality stuff online alot cheaper than that long drive. i just fucked up and cheaped out and never gave rf interference any thought. if those couple dollar parts don`t work then i`m going to use a different light so either way i solved my problem. as far as the capitalist thing, why did you have to go there? what`s your sollution communism?

all new cables were run a couple years ago. there`s only 2 splitters one down cellar splits into 3 for 3 tvs and there`s a splitter upstairs split for the tv and the modem. all of the connections are tight so if those ferrite cores don`t do it i`m getting a different ballast

ya good call if you dont want them nosing around..idk much about those ballasts but if no other equipment is hooked up and things are tight and new its possible their was an unrelated problem and it has nothing to do with your ballasts depending on what kind of truck came out..if it was a bucket truck thats a line crew and they likely werent their because of you....anyway sounds like you have it under control!

Starving artist or not, I can't imagine the money it costs for a Dr. recommendation is any more expensive than the cops finding out you are operating an illegal grow. I don't know where you live but I've seen Dr's that will recommend for $45. Doesn't really sound smart to me to not have your paperwork. If you are so low on cash how do you swing your electrical bill running 2 600w?

it`s not the so low on cash part that`s the problem. the problem is i haven`t been to a dr in 30 years except er visits and the only dr i know of wants paper work and all that good stuff, so that means i have to get a dr here and go threw all those motions with mri and xray expenses then drive clear across the state to another dr. if i had insurance i`ld be all over it. i`m sure there`s a dr somewhere in this state that will just hand them out for a couple hundred bucks i just haven`t found them yet. i`m not too worried about the cops kickin in my door, not sayin it couldn`t happen but i doubt it. i know both the cable guys so i`m not worried about dealing with them i just don`t want to be a dick to my neighbors if it`s messin with their cable. i`ll find out when we are all out there shoveling snow later today, i`ll just ask them if their cable is screwing up and if it is then i`ll remedy the situation and if it isn`t then no harm no foul.

ill tell ya the answer can be both yes and no depending if their cable system is properly closed as i as explaining before..cable is a closed system nothing is supposed to get in or out so if its messing with their cable their is a problem albeit a small one with their cable as it is so not really your fault. i hear ya tho just not wanting to mess with anyones day or their stuff i comend that most people dont give a shit ei the stupid ass neighbors that let their dog sit outside and bark...

i think i`m just being paranoid but an oz of prevention doesn`t hurt. i seen both the cable guys doing what looked like the same thing on other streets yesterday. i`m still gonna try those ferrite cores. the interference isn`t that bad. just a little snow on channels 2,3,5. i`ld think but idk that if i was screwing with someones cable it would be the guy across the street, everyone else is on different poles and his cable is fine he said.
