Cops keep shooting unarmed guys in my town. There was clearly NO reason to use deadly force on a guys climbing a fence, and in the back, no less. These pigs are fucking psychopaths...

Newly released police body-camera footage shows the moment a 24-year-old man was fatally shot by a cop last month in Chicago as he ran away from officers.

The footage, released Wednesday by Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability, shows an officer firing at Maurice Granton Jr. from a sidewalk as Granton attempts to scale a wrought iron fence on June 6.

Moments before the shooting, the officer can be seen giving chase in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the city’s South Side.

After several shots are fired at Granton, he is seen struggling and wailing while on the ground as the officer points his gun at him and orders him to “stay down, stay down.”

When other officers arrive, the officer who shot Granton says there’s a weapon on the ground that appeared to be several yards away.

“It’s a weapon right there, get the weapon … stay down, man,” the cop orders.

The video then shows a mass of people swarm the area — some of whom can be heard frantically shouting, “Maurice!” — as Granton lies on the ground.

An autopsy revealed that Granton was shot in the back.

Authorities said he fled when cops tried to question him as part of a drug investigation. At some point, officials said, he pulled out a gun, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Andrew Stroth, an attorney for the Granton family, said the footage shows the “unjustifiable, unconstitutional execution of Maurice Granton,” the news outlet reported.

“Maurice Granton is running away and, without cause or provocation, the officer shoots multiple times, killing him,” Stroth said. “Some of the family members had to leave the room because the video was so devastating.”

Granton’s family claims he was unarmed at the time he was shot.

The police department issued a brief statement later Wednesday saying it is “fully cooperating” with COPA’s investigation of the shooting.

The officer who shot Granton was placed on desk duty for 30 days, the Sun-Times reported.

The Granton shooting is in stark contrast to this dude, who just seems suicidal...

I think part of it is they just employ police children these days... they are almost all young kids with hardly any life experience or wisdom.
The biggest part of this is an almost total lack of accountability for such action, this is even backed up by recent SCOTUS decisions.

America is rapidly devolving into a Fascist police state.

P.S. How much do they pay police in Chicago?....How much would they have to pay u?
Maybe it's a problem policing can't solve.

After all, they've been trying to solve it with policing for decades now and it's only gotten worse.

Think they'll change tactics anytime soon? Me neither...

From JJ's article -

Burnett said it’s up to the neighborhoods to stop the violence. He talked about growing up in the former Cabrini-Green housing project.

“It was the mothers, it was the preachers, it was people in the neighborhood who stopped the wars in Cabrini Green,” he said. “It wasn’t the police.”

I remember having to travel through Cabrini for a job in the late 80s, when gunfire came though our CTA bus' windows. The cops were always thick around there, but it didn't matter. That community really cleaned itself up before they tore the whole project down a few years ago. Policing seems inefficient when people have nothing to lose. I don't have any answers, but murder is down by 25% this year. It was a super hot, packed weekend with Lollapalooza and everything else in town. They expected a crime ridden weekend, but this one seems especially bad...

I grew up with this kid. This just happened August 25.

24 years old, was preparing dinner at his house, chopping onions and celery, the police came to serve a felony search warrant for his dad for drug charges, Aaron answers the door holding the knife he was using (not having any idea who was at the door, police never notified as is federal law anytime a search warrant is issued), cop shoots him once in the chest, kid dies on the way to the hospital.

As it turns out, the cop that shot him had a previous relationship with Aaron's dad's ex-wife.

This hit home as it's actually a dude I fucking knew. My mom grew up with his mother, they both had us at the exact same time, she was pretty upset about it.

And to tell you the truth, this is the story that pushed me over the edge.

I'll never respect law enforcement as long as I'm alive.

FUCK THE POLICE.

RIP, man..
