does anyone know of any grow tents not affected by the off gasses the current tent i have have this problem and has fucked my last 2 crops

so the material of the grow tent when heated releases gases?
interesting. you running CO2? how well vented?
You keep track of your High & Low Temps? Whats your hight temp for your tent?

temps are about 26.9 high and go down to 19 using an in-line fan but i know ventilation is not the problem o well i getss it will teach me not to buy shit of e bay

Hmmmm i just bought a mylar ezi tent form my local hydro and he told me before i bought it that it will release gass or some crap and make my plants yellow and die. So i done some reading up and found out it mostly happened to the white pvc tents. Ok so i have taken a chance and bought it (had to cause of a stealth problem) Now all i can smell is brand new tent, canvas smell is that the gass you speak of? cause to me lol its just the new smell you get with anything bought new.

Anyway i have my tent 1.2m/1.2m/2.0m setup with a nice westaflex exhaust,400watt mh in a cool tube etc etc. I have only placed my main mother(just been cloned) in the tent its been in the tent now for the last 4 days and i have had NO problems with yellowing or instant death with my baby.

So how long did it take for you to start having problems with the tent?

whats happened with mine they grew fine for about 2 weeks as soon as the plants are about 3 nodes high they stopped growing and started to die looked like it was nute burn took me two crops to figure it out.i took them out of the tent in to a bed side cabinet within 24 hours they started to grow again i'm thinking of getting the secret jardin

Yep i had the same prob with mine. Took 3 grows for it to come right. Seems that its when the lights are out that the toxic fumes leach out of the plastic liner. So as previously mentioned by DeViLWIZARD & according to the chaps at the grow shop, the new mylar lined tents do not suffer the same problems as the white plastic lined ones.

So its when the lights are off that the gasses leach out? I would have thought it was the opposite. How soon did you notice this condition? Was it only confined to the flowering stage?

Thanks I have a cheap off of e-bay and surely don't want to loose my girls. I have 4 that went into one of these tents and are only into day 4 of flowering. I noticed some of the leaves started turning yellow around the bottom, but I'm sure this is due to N being used up.

Thanks!

It began happening as soon as the tent got hot. It got worse as the first grow developed. By the time they were in flower they were almost dead. However the plants in my back shed flowered beautifully, which is what made me suspicous it was the tent. The guys at the grow store all pretended to be shocked by my claims so there was no help there. Wasn't until I did a google search that I realized I wasnt alone.

As for yellowing at 4 days, that is too early to be nitrogen def. I dont mean to alarm you but that is how mine died. Started yellowing within the first few days of flower, completely fried in the first 2 weeks.

Im on the 4th grow now and its just starting to come right. But am on the scout for a mylar tent. Soon as I find one, the cover for this one is going in the trash.

just like to add another thing i didn't have this problem with cfls in there does anyone know if theses gasses will eventually dissipate from the PVC

Yeah, I have a cheap Jumble tent that I bought off of Ebay. I've got the same problem, the plants turned yellow and eventually white in the tent. I think I'll be able to save 2 of my 6 plants because they were the ones that spent the least time in the tent.

Based on what Jonus is saying and personal experience these gases should eventually dissipate to levels that are safe for your plants but I'm not holding my breath waiting for that. I've ordered a new tent and I'm thinking I'll leave the old one turned inside out in the basement to outgas for atleast a year. At that point it might be alright to use as a veg tent with just fluorescents. I believe the hotter HID lights would accelerate the outgasing.

I've ordered a Homebox because after reading posts here and elsewhere it seems like the sturdiest of the tents that doesn't have the outgasing problem and it's easy to set up.

I'll keep you posted. My tent was much hotter 4 weeks ago compared to today my hottest temp right now is 84 F. so I'm not sure that it would leach out at this temp. I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Woops I dont think I answered the first part of the question. At the time I had the carbon filter on the timer and it switched off when the lights went off and came on about an hour before the lights came back on again. I suspect that the toxic gasses were leaching out as soon as it got hot, and carried on doing so while the tent was cooling. However with the filter off the fumes were building up in the tent and killing the plants.

I now run the filter 24/7 as even in the 4th grow there is still fumes coming out but not as bad as the first 3 grows. Another store here sells a version of the tent and has a disclaimer on it claiming to be non-toxic, so I see they are addressing the issue but not being up front with it in issuing a recall.

They are selling the mylar tents so Im going to pick one up in the coming week and shut this other one down.

The moral of the story sadly is, get another tent if you can afford one, that has a guarantee on it that its non-toxic.

My hottest temp right now is 85 but i have the mylar tent though. But i have only had the tent for 5 days now.

Oh btw i have an idea how about we just buy some panda plastic and seal the tent up with it :blsmoke:

you shouldnt have any problem with the mayler lined tents as far as im aware the pvc lined one are the only ones affected im getin the secret jardin witch is mayler lined for 85 quid 100cmx100cmx200cm

If these put out enough toxic gas to kill plants in a short period of time what little effects might it have on you grow after grow after grow? I know you're not living inside it, but you touch it all the time and breathe the air around it often enough and that toxic outgas is constantly in your house in some amount.

I sure wouldn't want one in my house, fan on all the time or not. That's SERIOUSLY TOXIC when it can kill plants in just weeks or months what about the people that had one in their bedrooms and slept with the fucking things in there?

Fortunately my carbon filter took care of most of that, but that didnt help the plants that much since the filter took air already toxified out of the tent and cleaned it on the way before expelling it outside the grow area.

The point being, there should have been a fracken recall on those tents. The fact that the manufacturers, somewhere in south east asia, have allegedly corrected the fault is proof enough there should have been one.

But the filter didn't get the off gasses that left the tent from the outside. I think you're underestimating the effects things like this can have on your health without you even realizing it. Problems may not show immediately, maybe not even for years.

Who knows you could have fucked up kids with who knows what medical problems just from damage to your sperm even if you don't have any damage you actually notice to yourself.

We're pretty fragile creatures, just as fragile as plants.

You could be right there, however it seems it is the white plastic liner used in the tent that is at fault not the black matted outer. This is why the tents that have the same black matted outer and the mylar liner do not suffer the same problems of toxic gasses as the white vizscreen type lined tents did.

I have been considering that due to the high smog content in this city. I think I need another carbon filter running just for my house.
