nute strength for GHE - advice needed

ok guys I am just starting with GHE 3 part nutes and am very confused.

if you look at any GHE feeding chart they roughly recommend something like 0.7ml/liter for all 3 parts in vegg

However for me to reach an EC of 1200 I had to add 4ml/liter micro and 2ml/liter bloom

I know I have left out grow, but ignoring that fact, still this seems very weird. For me to reach the desired EC I want I need to add like 5 times more nutes than the manufacturer recommends and as you know the general rule of thumb is half strength to recommended manufacturers guide is good.

Is 5 times stronger than the manufacturers recommended amount right?? I could do with some input on this... Remember my EC is 1200 with a ph of 5.9. Unless my truncheon is broke.

Has anyone else found charts from General hydro stating all kinds of different amounts ( I have found 7ml/4liters and 7ml/10liters which is a considerable difference depending on either european charts or american charts) but even those figures are far too low for me.

I've been told from the hydro store guy that you can cut your feeding amounts in half and still have good results.

Anyone? Someone out there must use GH nutes and experimented with the lucas formula.
The lucas formula is 8ml micro per gallon and 16 ml bloom per gallon so roughly 20 ml micro per 10 liters and 40 ml bloom per 10 liter (totalling 60ml per 10 liters of feed) which is far more than the chart recommends saying an average of 10ml of all 3 parts per 10 liters which totals 30 ml of feed.

I trust the lucas formula more than the manufacturers chart and it confirms the manufacturers chart is far too weak so my question is how can people post the manufacturers guide has given them excellent results when some of these charts are imo 4 times too weak

I would think .7ml/l is for soil or drain-to-waste systems. I know from Lucas formula you need 24ml/gal (6ml/l) of total product to obtain 2 ec, so 12 ml/gal (3ml/l) total product would give you ~ 1 EC. So extrapolating it should take 1.2ml/l of each product to get an EC of 1.2.

When I mix up your 4ml/l micro and 2ml/l bloom I get 2 EC. I'm thinking you are reading the truncheon in PPM with a 700 conversion scale because 1400 ppm = 2 EC !!!

thx pat that helps but my ppm is 840 at 0.7 which is 1.2 EC

an EC of 2 would make sense but I get 1.2 using the same nute amount as you lol. I guess my tester plant I have given this mix to will have to tell me...

There is no way your ppm is 840 in a gallon of Lucas at 0-8-16. You had to have dosed at 0-5-10 for a gallon or 0-1.25-2.25 in a liter. Whats up? I mix 0-8-16 and get 1000ppm @.5 = 2 EC

  • TDS @ 0.5 conversion:
    0-4-8 = 473 ppm
    0-5-10 = 592 ppm
    0-8-16 = 947 ppm

    TDS @ 0.7 conversion:
    0-4-8 = 663 ppm
    0-5-10 = 829 ppm
    0-8-16 = 1326 ppm

well no... I am not doing 0-8-16, I will in flowering. Atm I am just trying to get a vegg combo.

So I mixed up 0-24-12 I will try 0-8-16 shortly since you are helping me just for comparisson. I think I might have soft water and I got the hard water micro

Anyway 0-24-16 gives me an EC of 1.6

Tester plant beeing fed on it now

Now you see why I made this post, you are getting the same WTF moment I've been getting lol. Sry about beeing a hydro noob but I've finally had enough of soil which I have dialled in by now but just too annoying changin soil every grow. So although totally new to hydro I do know a little and so far after 7 hours tester plant looking fine. I am not worried or bothered really just really surprised I will need to fork out for 5 times more nutes than I am used to so we'll have to see if this nute is even worth it ;) I've heard nothing but good things

ok I mixed up the lucas formula of 0-8-16 of micro and bloom for 1 gallon.

I got an EC of 1, not 2. I dunno if I need a new meter now...

ok guys problem sorted. I cleaned my meter and read manual again. It needs to adjust to the waters temp first. Now 0-8-16 is giving me an EC of 2.4 which is much more like it although I suspect my meter is not very accurate on that either lol but things make sense now.

So there you go. Something so simple throwing me completely off. Thx for your help pat.
