I am a Colorado mmj patient/ caregiver on my first grow. I currently am using a 4x4 tent with a 1000w dimable hps. I am about two wks from harvest. Tomorrow I am picking up a larger tent. My plan is to use the larger tent to flower and the 4x4 for vegetation. What would the best wattage be for my new mh light that will be used in a 4x4 tent with 9-11 plants?

Just my opinon but I say 400w should work. Should be plentty of light with out to much heat

Up sizing to 5x5 or 6x6. Mostly depends on what my supplier has to offer. Again , the larger tent will be for flowering my next crop.

Heat won't be an issue. Currently I can run a 750w hps and sustain 74 degree f. I move a shit load of air. If I bump it to 1000w. My ladies dance for me. Like my wife. They can't dance too long tho.

If you are moving to a 6x6 then stay with the 1k watt bulb. If you plan on continuing to use the 4x4, a 600w will do just fine.

Do you have an extraction fan? If so you could run 1000 watts easily, if not I'd run no more than 600 and that'd be pushing it.

Like I said. "I move a shit load of air." 2-6" fans in and out of hood. Plus 2- 6" fans in and out of tent. So sounds like I could go 1000w mh easily.

I use a adjustable ballast for my hps. I can run 100% 1000w. 75% 75w. Or 60% 600w. 100% is to high do to distance from plants being too close to light. Soggy is in my future.
