Seriously.. its a new account. I only use it for this site.

And I'm getting a fuck ton of spam on it.. a lot from "Veteran's" and people who seem to be looking to attract military members.. How that is possible, without some sort of deep connection to this site is beyond me..

This is literally the only place that has this email address.. so why are you giving peoples email out or allowing others to access it, and not protecting your users from simple browser info phishing?

Why.

Greetings, I can't say how this site handle's information but it's not hard to scrape information from non encrypted sites. Some OP's tend to think cloud flare will mask them... Wrong!

All I can say is defend your main email with a prejudice jealousy and use a burner for everything when possible.

The problem being that when these email lists are purchased, there is typically a niche that goes with the list of emails for marketing purposes. If I were going to be purchasing an email list -- I would want to target my audience for more direct conversions. Having said that, and you mentioning that you are getting emails in regards to military and vets.. I would tend to say RIU did not disclose your email to anyone. Perhaps you registered on another website that is more military focused?

Agree. Its that or malware/spyware. Pretty easy to pick those up if you're unprotected.

I've never received any spam for my career, service, demographic, nadda...from the email I use for this site. My Hotmail accts are another story. No matter what I use those for I get tons of junk mail/spam.

And yes, this site did have a DDOS attack but as far as I know that's not at all the same thing as personal info being "hacked".

I'd run a complete system scan. There are some tech savvy members here who could help a lot more than I could but that's I would start with along with clearing out my browser/cache/cookies etc before signing into that email again.

Funny! I don't receive any spam mail. Maybe you gave it to another site that sells emails.
I made this email address strictly for this site. Its brand new and I only use it for this site.

It's something I do regularly.. like a burner phone, its just safer sometimes.

My findings are, if you never register your windows with Micro soft, this stuff never happens.

Don't download and load MSN, always use a web page to sign in.

Its not malware or infected devices.. if it was, all my emails would be affected, not just this one particular one that is only used for this site.

So... my assumption is someone on this site did it.

Could of had a MiTM when you signed up here or on the email server. Could of been someone on the bgp at that time. Really are a lot vectors and the target surface area is huge.

Since the last time I had to reload windows I never bothered re-registering it. I haven't had a single bug since. I don't even run the virus shit anymore. I got windows to notify me on anything peculiar that's going on. All programs need permission from me to run. I know it's a lot of crap but once she's programmed to know basically everything you usually do, it's not very often something pops up that requires permission.

I get a lot of pop ups from a lot of sites informing me of a program the site wants to run...I decide.

Never has RIU asked permission to run any programs on my computer(s).

Unlikely, however it could be possible for a list of email addresses to be "generated". Of course depending on how complex and unique your address was -- you may have fallen victim to such a thing. Perhaps you could disclose the actual email address you are talking about, and I'll be able to tell you the likelihood of this happening.

Yes, it can always be something unforeseen.... but I always look for the easiest answer.

Just trying to let others know.. Carry on everyone.
