They should have a gallon of soil. For every month they will be in pot.3 months 3 gallon. For best results!

low stress training,, look into it m8, put it in th esearch tab or look through the faq , its all in there ,, u will learn better if ya read it yaself,,,

Thanks so if i was gonna veg the northern lights for a month and then flower for like 2 months i should use a 3 gallon pot?? would a 400 watt hps/mh ballast cover 5 sq feet.? lol im guessing its too much but i wanna use 400 watt..:d anyone know if northern lights smells a lot during growing or if it smells at all??

Are you just growing a single plant? A 400w will easily cover 5 sq ft, so it's almost overkill to use it for just one plant. Some of the people that use the SOG or scrog methods talk about growing 10-12 plants under a single 400w, but if your growing tall plants I'd say 3-4 is about the limit unless you want to add some supplementary lighting.

You also need to consider the size of your grow space. A 400w might not be the most powerful light out there, but it still puts out a fair amount of heat. It can easily raise the temperature in a closet space by 10 degrees, and you may have trouble keeping it high enough above the plants to keep them from burning once they get over 5 ft unless you have a high ceiling.

thanks for the advice.. my plan was to grow 10 lowryder #2 pants under the 400 watt just so i can pay of te cost of my equipment .. then i amgonna grow northen lights for my own stash hahha..:D
will the 400 watt mh/hps be sufficient?

low pot size just increases the frequency with which they need food and water, i have two nl #5 that vegged for three months in one gallon pots a month into flowering. rootbind is a myth.
