Northern Lights Cabinet Grow..First Time

First grow attempt.

Basic set-up is a cabinet 26"wX18"dX24"h. I have two 75 cfm 110v fans running, 1 each for intake and exhaust. A 12" fan for circulation and I am using 23w CFL's in both 6500k and 2700k for lighting during veg and flower stages. I can have up to 16 of each running at any time using y adapters.

Since this is my first grow I chose to keep it at one plant using femm'ed NL seeds from Nirvana. If this is successful using these materials..then I know I can make it happen using all of the other information on this site.

Basic plastic pot 1 gal using MG soil, ph'd water, and basic garden variety nutes for veg and flower. Wish me luck!

These are pics taken day 1 of week three.

I just topped the new growth and will do it again next week. Ill give it another week then send her into 12/12 and flower her. She has been getting steady 18/6 lighting so far.

I plan on using LST also to keep her lower so that I don't run into height issues. That and topping het twice to keep her spread out should keep me out of hot water.

Enjoy and any feedback is appreciated. I will do my best to keep this as up to date as possible. I also monitor internal temp and humidity. The average is 82f and around 37% humidity.

12/05. Checked the moisture using a soil meter and decided to give her a good water today till I got some run off. Used half strength nutes. Looks good, but I am considering adding another set of 6500k lights directly over the center and moving the current lights farther down on the sides to give an equal light balance. This girl, I saw girl because the seeds are fem'ed and I am hoping its not a lie, is bushy as hell with pretty close node spacing. I can see she will have lots of friggin flowering spots. What I am hoping to get is more even growth and eventually better nugs at each spot. Anticipation is kicking my ass. I am totally into this and can see myself going deeper into the rabbit hole..lol.

Will post more pics in a few days.

Good deal man, i might suggest if you are going to use soil, stay away from MG, heard the slow release ferts they have in it can set off nutrient balances, if u dont have a pretty nice soil testing kit, not the 3 probe one thats a pos. Coco is freakin amazing, no nutrients in the soil, ph balanced, allows for great drainage and holds oxygen very well. plus it doesnt stay muddy or as moist as regular soil can be. Only thing is you gotta add your own nutrients to your watering schedules to give it the food it needs.

Looks good so far, plant looks lush green and starting to look like its going to have lots of teirs to branch from. Keep it up, more pictures!

Appreciate the feedback man. I kind of jumped early and got it before I did more thorough research..lol. I watching it real close and making sure the ph is good. I am easy on the nutes so far as well. If this grow is successful with the stuff I am using, then my next grow, to include a few more plants will be the shit. I will invest in better soil mix etc. My original intent was to keep costs down to see if i even have the green thumb it takes. She does look good and I am totally happy with how things are going. Keep ti simple stupid is my method at the moment. I just checked in and I see that my top is already growing out to more colas. I figure if she keeps growing the way she is, by next week I can top once more..give her another week or so and then flower. I plan on using LST also to keep her spread out. I have more light fixtures standing by and plenty of hooks up top to hang them on to make sure it gets plenty of light to grow by..time will tell.

Thanks for looking in hmk024!

Concord Dawn man thanks for dropping in! Much love for checking this out. So far so good. Ill be adding some more pics next week to show how the first topping grew out and see how much my girl has grown. I have seen it once in all of the the threads I have read, but does anyone else name their girls? LOL..reason being is that I feel I should have a relationship with her, so to speak, and giving her a name seems fitting. Any thought?

hey arch, just caught up on your grow man, great job, +rep! i definitely think you have a green thumb, no doubt. and your setup looks great for the first try. i forget, how many of the cfls are you using right now? and do you have (or planning) a carbon filter on the outtake fan? you have a pic of the outside of cabinet to post, just curious how it looks. anyway, subbed -- i'll be watching!

I will include some of the overall cabinet pics when I post some again. I took my time looking for the cabinet. Its an old wooden one thats pretty solid and heavy as hell. I got it at a thrift shop for 15 bucks, took it home, sanded it a bit, painted it with white primer inside and out. Added weatherstripping to make it as close to air tight as I could and light proof. I actually have room to grow three plants if i top and use lst on them, and would provide more than I smoke...lol. Dont get me wrong, in a perfect world I could spend a day smoking fine weed, but it isnt practical. Ah to dream. I am currently using six 23w 6500k cfl;s under three hoods. If i ditch the hoods and bring in the spare lamp cord, I could have sixteen 23w cfl's running in any spectrum combination. I would have to add two more exhaust fans also, one each for intake and exhaust to keep the temp down and most likely add another fan inside for more circulation. As for the carbon filter, for now I will run without it. If I find that I need it later, I will use one of the many threads on this site to make me one. It's just me and the wife and this cabinet is in the lower section of the house so smell shouldnt be a real big issue.

Peace and thanks for the rep! lets see if I can earn it..haha. More to follow.

Nice clean Cab Mate.

She's looking very healthy too.

Which type of MG are you using?
Sup Cheap Bastard!

I am somewhat of a neat freak and show ocd tendencies which makes a grow like this a true test of my patience. I have seen some wicked nice grows and feel that I to one day will evolve into a mad scientist looking for that very next % of THC, smooth taste and supreme smoke. I am only a lil over three weeks in and the addiction has set in. I am using the moisture control MG mix. It is ph neutral and has the slow release nutes etc. So far ti has done me wrong but next grow, if this turns out a success, I will use something else..maybe fox or coco. Time will tell. I will get off my ass today and post some more pics of my girl and set up. Thanks for stopping in man. Take a seat and join the show if it suits you..lol.

Nice one Arch,

Bit of a neat freak myself. You'll see soon enough just how much so when I've finished my small cab.

I'll be keeping an eye on your thread to see how you progress.

Good luck Arch

Well heres a little update with some pictures. This is my cabinet overall shot. Nothing fancy..cost 15 dollars at a thrift store. A shot each of the power strip timer and fans that I have on it.

The basic store shelf nutes that I am using.

And a few pictures of my girl. She was just watered yesterday till I had run off and I gave her a light dose of the vegging nutes. She still seems happy. A close up of my first ever topping and is becoming evident that she is growing still and I will get two if not four main colas out of it. If she keeps growing the way she is, I may not top again and send her into flower at the end of next week. This is taken three weeks and a few days from seedling.

Enjoy!

The last two are of the plant tie wire that I am using and will use for further LST plus one of my little temp humidity gauge..lol.

Peace.

Fuck yeah, Arch!

Thrift stores all the way. One mans junk is anothers mans treasure. That's a great looking piece of furniture, repurposed for a greater good. I love reusing stuff.

Yeah, keep her short and she'll do just fine in that cab.

Awesome job Dude!

I'll be following this all the way.
