noob w/ questions ( legal etc )

sup guys

I am looking to start growing for smoking purpose only and have some questions that are troubling me. Ive been lurking for a few weeks and have read several diff posts from several diff ppl saying both yes and no to these questions...

1. Does the power company ( In the US on the East Coast, Dirty South ) monitor peoples power bill/usage at all to detect growers?
2. Would a small grow with 1 ( or 2 maybe ) - 400watt HPS/MH kit(s) and maybe a few more small vegging lights ,draw any attention from the power company/popo's etc. ?


Well, thats about it for now.. I have some running around to do..Last minute Xmas shopping so I have to jet but, I have alot more questions but this is a good place to start..

What you describe is a very modest op. I seriously doubt you'll arouse suspicion. If you're that concerned you shouldn't be thinking about growing in the first place, because virtually nobody is 100% safe.

that really doesnt make any sense. Of course im concerned. Im not someone who wants to go to jail homie.Especially not for growing 1-4 plants just to smoke.I think being "concerned" is a hell of alot better than having an I dont give a fuck attitude.Im in my 40s and have learned to be a pessimist . Optimists are far more likely to overlook some crucial details leading to something fucking up. Like I say all the time > You can NEVER be too careful.. I believe there is no such thing as "too careful".. What are the downfalls of being too careful? If there are any, I guarantee they are far better than the downfalls of not being careful enough.

the electric company is one of the last things for u to worry about when ur only running a 400w. im all most certain ur computer wattage is greater. only time u rlly have to worry about electric company is if the meter reader can see ur plants ,or if ur running more then 2000-3000w

that was my thinking EXACTLY. My PC has a 700 watt PSU so I wondered if 1 or 2 HPS kits would set off any flags. Nothing around here but dirt weed for 60.00 a 1/2 that does nothing except give me a damn headache. Its time I took the plunge. Ive been debating it for a while. I was just wondering if anyone has actually gotten trapped off cuz of the power company.Especially using 1-2 400watt HPS/MH kits. I certainly see the issue if your running a large room or greenhouse with bookoo lights an shit.

As long as you pay your bill the electric company doesn't care. It's winter, spikes in bills are common. Small scale grows will not catch their attention.

Would this be sufficient for a closet or small/med box grow?

OR -

Should I just get a seperate HPS light /ballast kit and get seperate lights ( cfl/fluorescent etc ) for vegging and clones etc and just forget the MH since it wont be used very long in my "main" light anyway?

You seem to have taken issue with what I said, yet our positions aren't really dissimilar. Nobody said you shouldn't take precautions, I merely wanted to illustrate that there is always risk, no matter how careful you are. Obviously the benefits outweigh the risk for me, that's why I got involved in the first place. Best of luck to you. That's not a bad setup you linked to, by the way.

not really. It just kinda rubbed me wrong when you said if I have concerns , then I shouldnt be growing is all. Its all good. Stay up.

I think he meant it more the concerns you're having aren't really the concerns of most experienced growers. Electricity, light leaks, odor...these are things that can be addressed pretty easily.

Honestly, from what I always hear about it seems 9 times out of 10 the reason someone gets caught is because they told someone they shouldn't have told.

my dad used to run 1000w HPS flowering room and a 400w MH veg room with a 150W grow cfl for clones and he never got tipped off.
