Noob needs a few questions answered please? + rep

straight to the point.
1. how can i soften my water, im in a very hard water area.
2. my ph has to be adjusted every 24 hours. why?
3. ive got major paranoid head and ive been thinking about my air pumps.
i have them on medium just to say so they can't be heard down stairs and next door, but i wont to turn them up and get more air in my reservoirs, but can't as the noise to loud for my liken and thats what i have been thinking of putting the air pumps in a cardboard box and surround the edges of the box in egg crates too create less noise and my paranoid head can just calm down and so my plants can get more air.
4. also ive been thinking about my reservoirs and wondering if i could paint them white but what paint do i use mat,gloss??????......
let me know what you guys think.

1. Can buy distilled water or try a water filer
2. Could be due to your water. ( i have the sames issue with ph adjusting every day till roots make it into buckets. But I added an ice pack every 12 hours and has helped out a lot )
3. My air pump was loud also and I hung it from the cord on an eye hook and it was fine from there. But you could try a box but better hope the air pump dont over heat cause than ull be pumping hot air in your tubs.
4. I use a cooler for my res works great. For the cost of paint and time a cooler was way easier. Drilled a couple holes and wham plus keeps temps down.

I am not sure if any of this is useful to you or not but figured more responces the better

cheers joe usefull it was u seem to be having or had the same problems as me with ph untill the roots come through you say, sound ill try what you have stated as it sounds right, as you have done it. sorry if im going on a bit but im well backed lol

yes i have had some of the issues and have spent many many hours searching forms all over the internet. Sometimes reading you see many people with the same questions but got 100 different answers so got to see what answer comes up the most and give it a try. I myself am in the learning process myself and have had my share of problems but I try to keep it as simple as possible so i dont have extra problems

fold some old towles and sit the air pumps on that, works for my small pump. Also, you'd be suprised what a paranoid brain might perceive as an issue that really isn't.

you right my gf keeps saying they not even that loud but i can't help be paranoid.
