Stay basic.. If you're buying seeds get the right ones..in, out... tall, short...etc..
I'd go with soil as its the most forgiving in case of bleak shit... After you've grown a plant then bump up your methods and ambitions... Have to be able to grow a plant 1st.... pot baron later.... Luck......
+rep for starting..

this site is a great place to learn. read growfaq and the stickies in each section. then as you have specific questions you can ask on the forums.

good luck

The above says it all... basically just read read read... the faq on this site are very easy and usefull.... Do you have your room set up yet?... whats the budget?... soil is what i would recommend because it is less work than hydro in some ways... i mean its messier... but you need to buy less stuff... less stuff to check every day.. less stuff that can break... less stuff to worry about.... i have done hydro... it wwas a dwc system. (read read read ) and soil side by side.. i liked how easy soil was.. I would recommend you read this soil guide...

let me know if you have more specific questions... check out my grows too.. allot of good info in them...

use soil or coco stay clear of mg soils slow release nutrients and are really acidic and are a cunt to maintain pH levels use cfls for veg will save you a fortune in electric and hps for flowering how big a room you planing on growing in
